Balkan Bulgarian Airlines, known until 1968 as TABSO, started services in July 1947 as a joint Bulgarian-Soviet company, but became a fully Bulgarian operation in 1954. The airline operates scheduled pas senger and cargo services to more than 30 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa together with a 13-point domestic network. Bangladesh Biman was formed in January 1972 as the national airline of Bangladesh. Scheduled services began in February 1972 and now link Dacca with Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Sylhet, Jessore, Ishurdi, and Saidpur in Bangladesh, plus international services to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Ran goon, Kathmandu, Calcutta, Bombay, Karachi, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Mus cat, Doha, Dhahran, Jeddah, Tripoli, Athens, Rome, Amsterdam, and London. Bayu Indonesia Air began operations in 1977 and now operates cargo charter ser vices to points throughout the world from Kemayoran Airport, Jakarta. Bayu special ises in the carriage of livestock. Belize Airways (BAL), formed in 1974 and designated the national airline of Belize, ceased operations in 1981. Scheduled pas senger and cargo services to the USA and Central America were operated until sus pension of the airline's operations in Febru ary 1980. BAL was re-activated in late 1980 and services on the Belize — Miami route were resumed with a leased One-Eleven 500 until operations were once more terminated. WORLD AIRLINE DIRECTORY Best Airlines is a new US scheduled airline which commenced operations in May 1982 with a DC-9-10 leased from British Midland Airways. Initial schedules link Chicago, Akron, and New York. Head Office: Buffalo Airport, New York, USA. Fleet: one DC-9-10. Bolivian Air Transport — see Transporte Aereo Boliviano (TAB). Bouraq Indonesia Airlines (BIA) was formed in 1970 by private interests to oper ate scheduled passenger and cargo services. Current domestic operations link Jakarta with several points in Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, plus Tawau in East Malaysia. PT Bali International Air Service is a sub sidiary company. Braathens South American and Far East Air Transport A/S (Braathens SAFE) was formed in 1946 by the Braathens shipping company to operate long-haul charters. A scheduled service to Hong Kong was oper ated from 1949 until 1954, when SAS took over the route. Charter flights are under taken, but the main effort is concentrated on a network of scheduled domestic services from Oslo to Stavanger, Kristiansand, Alesund, Kristiansund, Molde, Roros and Trondheim, plus Stavanger, Bergen and Alesund to Bodo, Evenes and Tromso. Sub sidiaries include Atlas Resor AB (inclusive- tours), Paddans Rosebureau AB (travel agents) and SAGA Solheiser (inclusive tours). Head Office: Ruselokkveien 26, Oslo 2, Norway. ^71595. On order: two Boeing 767-200. Braniff Airways, the Dallas-based US major carrier originally founded by brothers Tom and Paul Braniff in 1928, ceased opera tions on May 12, 1982. The company, operating as Braniff International, provided a network of scheduled passenger and cargo services throughout the USA and to numer ous destinations in Central and South America. London and Honolulu were also served from Dallas-Fort Worth. Braniff is currently in the process of re-organisation and utilising a staff of approximately 150. Bristow Helicopter Group, formed by Alan Bristow, commenced activities as Air Whaling in 1953. Bristow Helicopters, the main operating company, was formed in 1955. In 1962 the company became part of the Air Holdings Group (now British Air Transport [Holdings]).
