DEFENCE Seahawk enters service The first Sikorsky SH-60B Seahawk has been delivered to the US Navy one month ahead of schedule. The Seahawk, right, departs IBM's Owego facility for duty with HSL-41 at NAS San Diego, California. IBM is avionics prime contractor. The sensor operator's station, lower right, has a multifunction display which can show either radar or sonar target information. The sonar readout, lower left, shows the sonobuoy-derived infor mation. In its US Navy Lamps III role, Seahawk's data from the ALQ-142 electronic support measures, ASQ-81 magnetic anomaly detector, UYS-1 sonar analyser, and the AN/APS-124 search radar, are datalinked back to the parent ship. The Seahawk Sensor Operator and Airborne Tactical Officer (copilot) take over the systems for over-the-horizon missions.
