In. January 1969 Ansett acquired the outstanding shareholding (32 per cent) and MMA became a wholly owned division of Ansett Transport Industries. Air Madagascar (Societe Nationale Malgache de Transports Aeriens) was formed on January 1, 1962, as the national airline of the Malagasy Repub lic. The company is owned 80-64 per cent by the Government and 17-2 per cent by Air France and La Compagnie Generate Maritime. Air Madagascar 816 operates an extensive domestic network plus inter national routes to Paris and Marseilles via Djibouti. Regional services also link Tananarive with Nairobi, Mauritius and Reunion. Air Mali operates scheduled passenger services from Bamako, the capital, to Abidjan, Lome, Lagos, Niamey, Dakar, Freetown, Monrovia, Paris, Algiers, Brazzaville, Casablanca, Kenieba, Mopti, Nara, Nioro, Tombouetou, Goundam, Gao and Kayes. Air Malta Charter, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Malta, was formed in 1976 to operate charter and inclusive tour services to Malta from European airports, using Air Malta aircraft and personnel as required. Scheduled services began in January 1965 and were developed into a 17-point network by January 1, 1974, when the Government ordered the routes to be handed over to PAL. Air Manila subsequently undertook international and domestic charter flights, but suspended operations in 1983. Air Martinique is the operating name used by Compagnie Antillaise d'Affretements Aeriens (CAAA) formed on July 25, 1981, following the demise of Satair-Air Martinique. Major shareholders with 40 per cent are a group of local investors, with the remainder in the hands of the French companies Euralair (30 per cent) and Air Affaires International (30 per cent). Scheduled passenger and cargo services link Plaisance International Airport with Nairobi, Zurich, Rome, London, Tananarive, Reunion, Bombay, Johannesburg, Durban, Moroni, and the adjacent island of Rodrigues.
