WORLD AIRLINE DIRECTORY Air Jamaica was formed as Air Jamaica (1968) Limited on April 1, 1969 by the Jamaican Govern ment and Air Canada. The Canadian airline finally reduced its original holding from 40 per cent to zero in 1980, but continues to provide technical assistance under contract. Operations began on April 1, 1969, and scheduled passenger and cargo services now link Kingston and Montego Bay with San Juan, Port-au- Prince, Grand Cayman, Miami, New York, Philadel- .phia, Baltimore, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Toronto and San Juan. Subsidiaries include Air Lanka Catering Services, a joint venture with Thai International. Airline of the Marshall Islands <AMI) is the national flag carrier of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, formed in May 1980 to provide scheduled passenger and freight services as well as air ambu lance, aeromedical and maritime surveillance oper ations. Airlines of South Australia (ASA) was originally formed in January 1927, operating as Guinea Air ways. The company was taken over by Ansett Trans port Industries in 1959. Scheduled passenger, cargo and mail services link Adelaide with Mount Gambier, Ceduna, Kangaroo Island, Port Lincoln, Whyalla and Broken Hill. Charters are also undertaken. Airlines of Western Australia, known until July 1, 1981 as MacRobertson Miller Airline Services (MMA), began operations in October 1955 following the merger of MacRobertson Miller Aviation (founded in 1934) and Airlines (Western Australia) formed in 1935. In January 1969 Ansett acquired the outstanding shareholding (32 per cent) and MMA became a wholly owned division of Ansett Transport Industries. Scheduled passenger, cargo, and mail services are operated from Perth eastwards to Kalgoorlie and north and north-east to Darwin, serving 13 points. Air Madagascar (Societe Nationale Malgache de Transports Aeriens) was formed on January 1, 1962, as the national airline of the Malagasy Repub lic. The company is owned 80-64 per cent by the Government and 17-2 per cent by Air France and La Compagnie Generale Maritime. Air Madagascar operates an extensive domestic network plus inter national routes to Paris and Marseilles via Djibouti. Regional services also link Tananarive with Nairobi, Mauritius and Reunion. Subsidiaries include the SOMHI hotel complex, the ZAHA motel chain, the tour organiser Madagascar Airtours, Casino Club, Sofitrans, ARSATO and TAM. Regional services are operated to Harare, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Lusaka, Mauritius, plus domestic services to Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Karonga. Charters are also operated. Air Mali operates scheduled services from Bamako, the capital, to Abidjan, Lome, Lagos, Niamey, Dakar, Freetown, Monrovia, Paris, Algiers, Brazzaville, Casablanca, Kenieba, Mopti, Nara, Nioro, Tombouctou, Goundam, Gao and Kayes.
