WORLD AIRLINE DIRECTORY Flying Tiger Line, formed on June 25, 1945 as National Skyway Freight, is a subsidiary of the Tiger International conglomerate, which also controls the Tiger-Air international aviation services and supply company. Flying Tiger was organised as the first all-cargo airline in the USA and took its present mime in 1946. The Company is a certificated all-cargo akline which carries freight and mail primarily on -scheduled flights over a worldwide route system covering North and Latin America, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Europe. FTL also operates worldwide cargo charters, together with USAF/MAC contract flights across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Flying Tiger absorbed Seaboard World Airlines on October 1, 1980, thus giving Tiger access to North Atlantic and European markets. A subsidiary, Metro International Airways, formed in January 1981 to operate scheduled and charter passenger services, ceased operations in early 1983 and its services taken over by Tower Air. Fort Worth Airlines, a newly established sched uled carrier, has commenced passenger services from Fort Worth (Meacham Field), its base, to Houston (Hobby). Executives: president, Thomas King. Fleet: four NAME YS-11. Fred Olsens Flyselskap (Fred Olsens Air Trans port) was formed in June 1946 and is a subsidiary of the shipping group of the same name. Frontier Airlines was formed in June 1950 by a merger of three smaller carriers and has evolved into a large national airline. An extensive network of scheduled passenger and cargo routes link cities in 22 states of the USA, and stretch from Illinois to the east, the Pacific Coast to the west, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico to the south and Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, and Vancouver in Canada to the north. Control of the airline passed to RKO General in 1964, itself a subsidiary of Gen Corp. A plan has been agreed whereby Frontier's employees will acquire the company's stock. Employees: 5,100. , FLIGHT International, 30 March 1985 Garuda Indonesian Airways, the world's largest Fokker F.28 operator, has traded its F.28-1000s back to the manufacturer for F.28-4000s Fleet: 51 Boeing 737-200, five MD-80. Frontier Horizon was created as a wholly owned subsidiary of Frontier Airlines, formed by the parent carrier as a non-union, low-cost operator. Services commenced in January 1984 initially linking Denver with Chicago, Washington (Dulles), New York (La Guardia) and San Francisco. The carrier has reportedly been acquiired by Skybus Corporation which plans to rename the carrier Frontier Discovery and initiate service from Denver to London. Garuda Indonesian Airways is the state-owned Indonesian national airline formed on March 31, 1950 by the Government and KLM, as the successor to the post-war Inter-Island Division of KLM and the pre-war KNILM. Nationalisation took place in March 1954. One January 1, 1963, Garuda took over De Kkroonduif s domestic operations in West New Guinea (Irian) and a year later they were handed over to PT Merpati Nusantara, the nationalised domestic operator. In October 1978 Garuda took over Merpati Nusantara Airlines, which continues to operate under its own name. Scheduled passenger and cargo services are operated from Jakarta to London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Zurich, Athens, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Colombo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne and to Tokyo via Denpasar. Garuda's domestic network extends one-tenth of the way round the world, linking Jakarta with more than 30 points throughout the archipelago. Garuda's aviation-related interests include the Sanur Beach and Nusa Dua Beach hotels, the catering subsidiary PT Angkasa Citra Sarana and Satriavi Travel Service. Head Office: Jalan Ir. H. Gatwick-Heathrow Airlink was formed in 1978 to operate a high-frequency passenger shuttle between London's Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. Services began on June 8, 1978, using a Sikorsky S-61N heli copter, owned by the British Airports Authority, leased by British Caledonian. The latter provides cabin staff and passenger and baggage handling at Gatwick while British Airways performs the ground services at Heathrow. Pilots and engineers are provided by British Airways Helicopters. The service is non-reservation and currently operates ten flights each day in each direction. G B Airways, formerly trading as Gibair until November 1981, is the name under which Gibraltar Airways operates scheduled services from Gibraltar to London and Tangier. The company was formed in 1931 as an offshoot of the Gibraltar shipping company, M. H. Bland & Co Ltd, and commenced .operations to Tangier. These were subsequently suspended until 1947. Present shareholders are the Marland Shipping & Trading Co.(51 per cent) and British Airways Associated Companies (49 per cent). The Gibraltar-London route is operated with a Boeing 737 leased from Britannia Airways. Charter operations are also undertaken in the Mediterranean area. Employees: 210. Fleet: five DC-8-73F. Ghana Airways Corporation was formed in July 1958 by the Ghana Government to take over the Ghana operations of the former West African Airways Corporation. International routes now link Accra with Rome and London. West coast DC-9 services link Accra with Lagos, Abidjan, Monrovia, Freetown, Conakry, Banjul, Dakar, Lome, and Cotonou, and extensions are planned to Douala, Libreville, and Luanda.
