Maof Airlines was established in 1969 as a general- aviation operator with a single Cessna 172 and •-expanded into ground handling and tour operation. Martinair Holland was formed in May 1958 as Martin's Air Charter, and the present title was adop ted in 1974. Worldwide passenger and cargo charter services are l operated. In addition, the company provides complete inclusive tour packages and operates air-taxi and executive flights. Martinair maintains and operates the Dutch Government's Fokker F.28, used by I members of the Royal Family and cabinet ministers. Subsidiary companies are active in the fields of aerial advertising, flight training, sales support by hostess teams, party catering, production of deepfreeze meals and components, and computer facilities manage ment services. Maya Airways, a division of the Maya Corporation, was formed in 1961 to succeed the Government- owned British Honduras Airways, a BWIA subsidiary which had ceased operations earlier that year. Prime object was to take over the network of internal services developed by the Air Force since 1958. In 1964 Merpati took over the routes previously operated by the KLM subsidiary De Kroonduif, which had been flown by Garuda since 1962. An extensive network of domestic scheduled passenger and cargo services link Jakarta with numerous points throughout Indonesia. In October 1978 the airline was taken over by the national carrier Garuda, although Merpati continues to oper ate under its own name. Metro Airlines was formed in 1966 as Nasa Commuter Airline, and adopted its present name and began scheduled passenger/cargo services on June 8, 1969. It has become one of America's largest private regional airlines, flying from Houston Interconti nental, Dallas/Fort Worth regional, and Oklahoma City's Will Rogers World Airport to 23 cities located throughout the upper Texas Gulf Coast, East Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Eastern Metro Express, a subsidiary of Metro, operates the Jetstream 31 and DHC-8 aircraft on feeder services for Eastern Air Lines. Mexicana (Compania Mexicana de Aviacion) claims to be the second oldest airline in Latin Amer ica and the fourth oldest in the world. Founded orig inally as Compania Mexicana de Transportes Aereos in 1921, the airline adopted its present name on August 20, 1924. Scheduled and charter passenger and cargo services are operated to 27 points in Mexico and to Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Seattle, and Philadelphia in the USA, plus Havana, San Juan, Guatemala City, and San Jose, Costa Rica. The Mexican Government became the major share holder in the airline when it increased its holding to 58 per cent on July 15, 1982. MIAT (Mongolyn Irgeniy Agaaryn Teever—Mongolian Civil Air Transport) was formed in 1956 with assistance from Aeroflot. Middle East Airlines AirLiban SAL (MEA) was founded and began operations in 1945 and adopted its present title in November 1965, when the airline was merged with Air Liban. In 1969 MEA took over Lebanese International Airways. An extensive network of scheduled passenger services connects Beirut with points throughout the Middle East, Europe, North and West Africa.
