The airline was incorporated in 1947 as Rimouski Airlines and merged in 1953 with Gulf Aviation Company under the name Quebecair. The company currently provides a network of scheduled services covering Labrador/Wabush (Newfoundland), Toronto (Ontario), 24 points in Quebec province, and Boston and New York in the USA. Ransome Airlines, a Philadelphia-based commuter airline, commenced operations in March 1967. Its association with the Allegheny commuter system, which began in August 1970, was terminated on June 1, 1982. Ransome provides scheduled services to Albany, Boston, Burlington (Vermont), Hartford/Springfield, New York (La Guardia and JFK), Long Island, Newark, Philadelphia, Portland (Maine), Providence, Trenton/Princeton, and Washington-National. Since May 1984 the airline has been operating in association with Delta under "The Delta Connection". Republic Airlines was formed in June 1979 by a merger of North Central Airlines (based at Minneapolis-St Paul and formed in 1948), and Southern Airways (based in Atlanta and founded in 1949), and operations began on July 1, 1979. On October 1, 1980, Republic acquired Hughes Airwest and thus strengthened its position as a major US carrier. The combined network of scheduled passenger and cargo services link more than 100 cities in 32 states of the Continental USA. Routes flown also cover the District of Columbia, Canada, Mexico, and Grand Cayman in the Caribbean. Republic is publicly owned with 42,000 stockholders.
