INDUSTRY WHO'S SELLING "One of the largest manu facturing subcontracts ever placed internationally by Boeing" is how Australia's industry minister, John Button, welcomes the Ameri can company's $A130 million contract with Hawker de Havilland. The Australian company, supported by Government Aircraft Factories and Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation, will supply the entire 747 leading- edge flap system. Deliveries will start in 1987, and the contract will "continue for the entire future 747 production programme". Graviner has been selected to supply the high-pressure pneumatic fin actuation of Nato's new advanced short range air-to-air missile (Asraam). A unique coiled- tube pressure vessel fits round the nozzle of the missile's rocket motor. Graviner is also confirmed as supplier of the digital fire protection system of the Gulfstream IV's Rolls-Royce Tay engines, with warnings and faults displayed on the Eicas system. Graviner is building a new £5 million factory at its Colnbrook site near Heathrow. Lee Refrigeration has won a Virgin Atlantic order to supply four special galley refrigerators for its 747s. The 7ft1 units will run off the aircraft's 200V three-phase 400Hz electrical system. Lee is also bidding to supply galley chillers for the Airbus 320. WHO'S NEWS George Attridge joins Saab Aircraft of America as president and chief executive officer. Based in Washington D.C., the new company will be responsible for Saab SF.340 marketing, sales, and product support in the USA. Brainerd Holmes, 65, is retiring as Raytheon presi dent. He will be succeeded by Gene Shelley, 61, general manager of the company's equipment division in Wayland.
