WORLD AIRLINE DIRECTORY Republic acquired Hughes Airwest and thus strength ened its position as a major US carrier. The carrier is currently subject to a merger proposal with North west Airlines, under which Republic would become a wholly owned subsidiary of Northwest parent NWA Inc. The deal, which is yet to be approved by the US Department of Transportation, could result in a significant realignment of Republic's domestic route structure. Rich International Airways began operations in January 1971. In July 1976 the airline was designated a supplemental US airline authorised to operate worldwide passenger and cargo charters together with scheduled cargo services from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach (Florida) to points in the Caribbean including the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. Passenger charters are also oper ated from the north eastern United States to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Mexico. Rio Airways, formed in 1967, currently provides a hub-and-spoke network of scheduled passenger services throughout Texas, linking Dallas/Fort Worth with Wichita Falls, San Angelo, College Station, Killeen, Temple, Waco, Abilene and Texarkana, as well as Fayetteville and Fort Smith (Arkansas) and Lawton (Oklahoma). In late 1985 negotiations started on a proposed merger with another Delta Connection commuter, Atlantic Southeast Airlines, but the deal fell through in January 1986. Rio-Sul Services Aereos Regionais, a Brazilian domestic operator, was founded in August 24, 1976, to provide commuter services to cities in the southern region of Brazil, principally within the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Parana, Rio de Janeiro, and part of the Espirito Santo and Sao Paulo. RN Air Cargo, a Nigerian cargo operator, commenced charter services in 1983, primarily between Nigeria and Europe. Rocky Mountain Airways, formed in 1965, is a Denver-based regional carrier serving a tri-state area in the central Rocky Mountains. Scheduled services link Denver with Alamosa, Aspen, Avon/Vail, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Steamboat Springs (Colorado); Scotts Bluff (Nebraska); and Cheyenne and Laramie (Wyoming). The carrier has been involved in the development of Stol scheduled oper ations utilising microwave landing systems at high altitude airports. Fleet: five DC-8-73F, six DC-8-63QN. Royal Air Inter was established in 1970 to operate scheduled domestic services served by the national carrier, Royal Air Maroc, which has a 42-5 per cent holding. Current services link Casablanca with Agadir, Al Hoceima, Fez, Laayoune, Marrakech, Oujda, Rabat, Tangier, and Tetouan. A regional service to Dakhla (Mauritania) is also provided. Royal Air Maroc (Compagnie Nationale de Transports Aeriens) operates scheduled passenger and cargo services from Casablanca to points in Morocco, North and West Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and to New York, Montreal and Rio de Janeiro. Charter and inclusive tour flights are also undertaken. The main subsidiary holdings include SOTORAM Societe Touristique de Royal Air Maroe), which provides catering services and runs an hotel, and Royal Air Inter, which operates domestic flights. Royal Air Maroc was formed in 1953, and the present name was adopted in 1957. The Moroccan Government holds 92-7 per cent of the company's shares. Royal Brunei Airlines was formed on November 18, 1974, as the Government-owned national airline of Negara Brunei Darussalam, with technical assis tance and personnel seconded from British Airways Associated Companies. Service began in May 1975, and now link the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, with Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Bangkok, Darwin, and Jakarta. Royale Airlines, formed in 1969, operates scheduled passenger services throughout Louisiana, linking Shreveport with New Orleans, Lake Charles, Monroe, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, and Lafayette, and to Pensacola (Florida), Jackson, and Natchez (Mississippi), and Memphis (Tennessee). Royale also provides feeder services from Beaumont, Brownsville, College Station, and Laredo in Texas, and points in Louisiana to Houston under the name "Continental Commuter" in association with Continental Airlines. Royal Coach Airlines is a new US operator which plans to provide all-economy scheduled passenger services, initially between New York City and Los Angeles. Royal Nepal Airlines was formed by the Govern ment of Nepal on July 1, 1958, to take over all domestic routes, together with the international routes between India and Nepal previously operated by Indian Airlines. Current operations include scheduled passenger and freight services linking Kathmandu with 20 domestic points, plus inter national routes to Bangkok, Dacca, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Rangoon.
