The rest of the crew were rescued by other ships. TRACER US Marine Corps AV-8 Harriers might be deployed aboard ships, including civil ian tankers, in the Persian Gulf. Chairman of the US Joint Chief of Staff, Admiral William Crowe says "That is a very definite possibility." Beech has won a $19-8 million US Navy contract for a follow-on order for 19 T-34C Turbo Mentor primary train ers. The aircraft will be deliv ered between June 1989 and April 1990. The service will retain its ten US-1 rescue amphibians however. The 11th US-1 is currently being built. Dowty has won a $10 million order from the Royal Air Force for Cambs III sono- buoys. Dowty has produced more than 500,000 of the command-active multi-beam sonobuoys. United States Air Force aircrew are to be issued with leather flying jackets, as used in the Second World War, "to enhance esprit de corps" and, the USAF hopes, to keep pilots re-enlisting. The move might cost up to $5 million. Flight understands that no requirement exists as yet for silk scarves.
