GENERAL A VIATION Super Cub update gets US certification AFTON A new version of the Piper Super Cub, with more power and significantly increased climb and cruise performance, has been certificated by the US Federal Aviation Admin istration. The conversion, performed by Christen Industries, which also makes Pitts Special and Eagle aerobatic aircraft, raises the Super Cub's cruise speed from 115 m.p.h. to 140 m.p.h. and rate of climb from 960ft/min to l,500ft/min. The 180 h.p. Avco Lyco ming O-360-C1G engine powers the aircraft, which is named the Husky A-l. Super Cubs were fitted with the 150 h.p. Lycoming O-320. A Hartzell constant-speed pro peller is used instead of a fixed-pitch Sensenich unit. Larger-area, manually oper ated, single-slotted flaps give a power-on stall speed of 33 m.p.h. Christen Industries calls the Husky the "first all-new light aircraft to be certificated in the USA for many years", and is producing one example per week, an initial 12 conversions going to the US Border Patrol. Christen Industries is located in Afton, Wyoming. Veritajr opens BK.117 UKorderbook CARDIFF Veritair Helicopters has ordered two MBB BK.117 helicopters for use offshore.
