succ yc \ Cathay Pacific operate some of the longest haul sectors in the world. Flying routes that can be as strenuous as Vancouver- Hong Kong, they depend 100% on Rolls-Royce power. The partnership is a long running success story. And the longest chapter of all has been RB211. In 1984 the RB211-524D4 upgrade on Cathay's 747-200s led to a 3% improvement in fuel burn. The further upgraded D4B came into service in October 1987 with additional fuel burn improvement. And Cathay are the launch airline on the -524G, the RB211 development already ordered by three major airlines for the 747-400 when it comes into service in 1989. Fusing proven reliability with advanced technology, the - 524G offers non-stop savings and performance. Its unique, fuel saving wide chord fan has fewer blades, no snubbers and the light weight benefits of 'titanium sandwich' technology. Whilst the innovative integrated exhaust nozzle and mixer improve performance, provide a considerable fuel saving and can increase reverse thrust by 40%. And the RB211's refined technology offers longer intervals between shop visits, and lower maintenance costs. No wonder Cathay Pacific is adding to its existing all Rolls-Royce powered fleet by choosing the RB211-524G engines for its ultra Jong haul Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
