(385/5498 FLIGHT INTERNATIONAL, 6 August 1988 BRITISH ANTARCTIC SURVEY PILOTS A The British Antarctic Survey has vacancies for Pilots to fly ski-wheeled DHC6 Twin Otter aircraft. Applicants must hold at least a valid UK CPL/IR and have a minimum of 2,500 hours of which the majority must have been in command of multi-engine aircraft. Consideration will be given to Pilots with 1,500 hours total of which at least 500 must be in command. Successful applicants will be based in the Antarctic at the Survey's Rothera Station (67i°S, 68°W) for five months a year from November to March. The aircraft are overhauled in the UK between April and September and leave the country during October. Three Twin Otters are operated from unprepared snow strips to position and support scientific research parties and undertake remote sensing and high standards of airmanship and navigation are required. Antarctic operations also require that Pilots undertake a full share of support duties as need dictates. Applicants must be male, as the nature and location of the work will require the successful candidates to share tented accommodation in the field, should be citizens of the European Economic Community and preferably under 35 years of age.
