Turbofans and turbo jets (more than 30,000lb) If you have to ask the price of aircraft in this category, you cannot afford one. These are the up-market, purpose-designed business jets and adaptations of airliners, and because the price varies greatly depending upon the interior fitted, few prices are given. All types in this section have ranges well in excess of 3,000 n.m. and offer an (apparently expensive) alternative to intercontinental travel by scheduled airliner. The choice of aircraft at the light end of this category has narrowed with the ceasing of production of the Dassault Falcon 200 and the Gulfstream III. Falcon supporters must now choose between the lighter Falcon 100 or the heavier three-engined Falcon 50. Gulfstream has a massive corporate order- book for the GIV, and also offers the aircraft for "special requirements" or governments. This version is known as the SRA. Canadair, which reports surging orders for its Challenger and next year will increase the production rate, believes that it is taking market share from both Gulfstream and Dassault. With no jet of this size in our crystal-ball section, it seems that the choice will be limited to these types for some years. If maximum range is the main consid eration, and a converted airliner is too expensive, then the GlV must be the choice, because its range is considerably greater than those of the others, and compares well with the airliners listed. If cabin cross-section is paramount, then the Challenger is widest and as high as the Falcons or the GIV. A dining area, an executive compartment, and club seating are features of the Falcon 900 Suppliers offer a wide range of custom interiors, from boudoirs and bathrooms with gold taps to aerial boardrooms and offices. New to this year's listing are a number of Boeings, which the US firm now offers for corporate use. The lightest of the new entrants is the 757-200 and the heaviest is the 747SP.
