PEOPLE. • Ferranti Instrumentation Ferranti Instrumentation has announced new roles for three of its directors and appointed a group military sales and market ing manager. Neil Forbes has been appointed military oper ations director, Brian Thrussell is promoted to military sales and marketing manager, Bruce Calveley is appointed manu facturing director, and Rod Muttram is appointed engin eering and quality director. • Airbus Industrie Rolf Kohfeldt has succeeded Juergen Thomas as senior vice- president industrial and pro grammes of Airbus Industrie, with responsibility for the pro duction, industrial planning, and aircraft programmes of the European consortium. Kohfeldt joins Airbus Industrie from its West German partner Messerschmitt- Bolkow - Blohm, where he has held the post of plant manager of the aircraft service centre in Lemwerder since 1983. • Matra Defense Espace Richard E. Brackeen has joined Matra Defense Espace's US subsidiary as president and chief executive officer. He was pre viously president of Commer cial Titan a subsidiary of Martin Marietta. Brackeen will be in charge of the defence and space development. Fokker's Cess Biersma • Fokker Cess Biersma is taking the post of executive vice-president marketing and sales of Fokker Aircraft from April 3. He has worked for Fokker since 1982, in various roles implementing management development pro- grames. Biersma succeeds Frits van der Jagt who is named executive vice-president personnel and social affairs, as well as being corporate vice- president personnel. • Texas Instruments Texas Instruments has appointed T. E. (Gene) Harwell vice-president of the Defense Systems & Electronics Group, with responsibility for market ing, manufacturing, and sup port functions in all markets outside the USA. Previously, he was manager of European oper ations. • CF AirFreight CF AirFreight has appointed Thomas Delaney manager for its Pacific Division operations, based in Hong Kong. The company has full service termi nals in Singapore and Australia, and plans to open new bases in Hong Kong soon and in Japan and Taiwan later this year. • Aero & Industrial Technology Air Marshal Sir "Bill" Richard son (retired), formerly chief engineer of the RAF, has been appointed director of Aero & Industrial Technology. AIT was formed late last year, with the combining of Lucas Aerospace's combustion tech nology and engineering centre and engine fabrications. Rich ardson will mainly help to develop the company's defence business. Chris Owen of Reed Aviation • Reed Aviation Luton-based Reed Aviation appoints Chris Owens to the newly created post of cargo development manager. Owens was a director of Alsan, a sales agency as well as Ryanair's freight handler. McDonnell announces Douglas changes D McDonnell Douglas r -,-- —, McDonnell Douglas chief executive officer John F. j/" McDonnell has unveiled a streamlined organisational structure at Douglas Aircraft. The new structure features four product divisions, a quality division, and five other divisions to handle complementary functions. Douglas Aircraft President- Elect Robert H. Hood has named a new management team: Joel D. Smith, vice- president—general manager quality, formerly vice-presi dent—quality, corporate office, St Louis. John D. Wolfe, vice-president— general manager MD-80/ DC-9, formerly executive vice-president—operations, McDonnell Aircraft, St Louis. Jack N. Hayden, vice- president—deputy general manager MD-80 /DC-9, for merly director MD-80 pro duction, Douglas Aircraft. Louis F. Harrington, vice- president—general manager MD-11 /DC-10, formerly vice-president—general man ager, McDonnell Douglas Space Systems, Huntington Beach, California. Robert L. Clepper, vice-president— general manager C-17, whose job stays the same. Thomas M. Ryan, vjce-president— general manager T-45 and training systems, formerly John F. McDonnell senior vice-president— government products, Doug las Aircraft. David O. Swain, vice-president—general man ager, Strategic Business and Technology Development, formerly vice-president Stra tegic Business Development, McDonnell Douglas Missile Systems, St Louis. Joe B. Pirkle, vice-president— general manager product centre operations, formerly vice-president, internal oper ations, McDonnell Douglas Missile Systems, St Louis. Richard M. Randall, vice- president—general manager, Support and Plans Inte gration, formerly senior vie e-p r e s i d e n t—F i n a n c e and Resource Development, Douglas Aircraft. • Channel Express Bournemouth, southern England, flower distribution and freight carrier Channel Express appoints Stephen Barker a non-executive direc tor. His experience in over seeing the development of small business is expected to help the growth of the airline. • AAXICO Miami-based aircraft support company AAXICO has promoted Van Rigby from general manager to vice- president and general manager, new products division. Grant Clifton, previously director and European sales representative, is now vice-president market ing. D Highlands and Islands Airports Highlands and Islands Air ports has appointed Bob Goldfield, a former senior air traffic controller with the RAF, as manager of Inverness Airport. Goldfield left the RAF last year after 24 years service. • McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Bob Buffum has been named director of McDonnell Douglas Helicopter's MDX programme. The no-tail-rotor eight-seat twin-engine helicopter is to fly in 1992. Ted Bray of Ion Deposition .• Ion Deposition Ted Bray has been appointed quality assurance manager for Ion Deposition, which operates specialist vacuum deposition coating services for the aero space, defence, automotive, and general engineering industries.
