The carrier, which is a subsidiary of the Kumho Group, oper ates scheduled domestic passenger services and charter flights. International scheduled services are planned for introduction in 1990. Aspen Airways, a Denver-based scheduled passenger carrier, became a "United Express" commuter in June 1986, when a formal feeder agreement was signed with United Airlines. Atlantic Airways operates a scheduled passenger service from the Fasroe Islands to Copenhagen. The carrier began operations in 1988. Fleet: one BAe 146-200. Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA), a "Delta Connection" carrier, operates a hub-and-spoke network from Atlanta, Georgia, serving some 27 cities in Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. A similar hub operation exists at Dallas/Ft Worth involving services to 16 points. Atlantic Southeast was the launch customer for the Brasilia. Australian Airlines, one of Australia's two major domestic carriers, changed its status from a statutory corporation to a public limited company in April 1988, in preparation for privatisation. At present the airline is fully owned by the Australian Government. The carrier operates an exten sive network of scheduled passenger and cargo services, linking all state capital cities and many provincial towns. The airline has undergone a considerable transformation over the past three years, incorporating a change of name and livery, a rationalisation of its structure and route system, and the formation of a network of feeder services under a newly formed holding company, Australian Regional Airlines Pty Ltd. Air Queensland, which the company acquired in 1983, was officially closed down on April 30, 1988. Australian Regional Airlines, a fully owned subsidiary established in 1988, has taken over many of Air Queensland's former routes using five Twin Otter aircraft. A 42 per cent holding in Eastern Australia Airlines was acquired by the regional holding company in 1988. An order for nine Airbus 320s has been cancelled. History: The company was formed in 1945 and began operations in September 1946 as Trans Australia Airlines. The name Australian Airlines was adopted in 1986. Austral L'ineas Aereas (ALA) operates scheduled passenger and cargo services over a 27-point domestic network in Argentina. The company was acquired by Cielos del Sur, a holding company, in 1987. Austral made a bid to acquire a majority shareholding in Aerolineas Argentinas last year, but privatisation of the flag-carrier has been postponed. History: The airline was formed in June 1971 by the merger of Austral Compania Argentina de Transportes Aereos, and Aerotransportes Litoral Argentino (ALA). The original Austral was formed in 1957 and began scheduled services in 1958. In 1966 Austral acquired a 30 per cent interest in ALA and the companies have operated integrated services from that time. ALA was formed in 1957 as an air-taxi company. Austrian Airlines (Osterreichische Lnftverkehrs) oper ates scheduled passenger and cargo services from Vienna, Graz, Linz, Klagenfurt, and Salzburg to 54 cities in 36 countries in Eastern and Western Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, USA, and. Japan. The carrier inau gurated services to New York and Tokyo in March using two newly delivered Airbus 310s. Austrian also under takes an extensive network of charter flights within Europe and Africa through its subsidiary, Austrian Airtransport (80 per cent owned). The carrier is now owned 75 per cent by the Austrian Government. Domes tic commuter flights arc operated by Austrian Air Services (100 per cent owned by Austrian Airlines) using Fokker 50. History: The airline was formed in September 1957 through a merger of Air Austria and Austrian Airways, neither of which had started operating.
