lJhUlJLh D Inmarsat George Symeonidis of Greece has been elected chairman of the Inmarsat Council for the coming year. Symeonidis succeeds Hideo Nagata of Japan, whose 12-month term ended with the Council's 32nd meeting in London at the end of March. He has been head of all radio planning activities for the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization for five years. D Aerospatiale Philippe Courtland has become director of space programmes for the strategic and space sys tems division of Aerospatiale. He succeeds Jean-Marie Luton, who has left to become director- general of French space agency CNES. Courtland was formerly director of the Hermes space- plane project at CNES. • Oxley Oxley Developments has appointed Peter Scutt southern area sales manager. Scutt joined Oxley in August 1987. He was previously a project manager with Plessey Aerospace. • Ferranti Defence Systems Ferranti Defence Systems has announced several senior appointments under managing director Ron Dunn. David Nisbet has been appointed deputy managing director. Nisbet was formerly general manager of Electro-Optics Division. He will be succeeded by Walter Dollar, who moves up from a senior post at Radar Systems Division. Alan Heron has transferred from Ferranti Computer Systems to head up the new Strategic Projects Group. Roy Tait is appointed director of marketing and busi ness development. Les Butler takes over from Tait as general manager of Navigation Systems Division. Eric Henney takes on the new assignment of director for project assessment. Frank Whitehall has been promoted to director, quality. • Whirly Girls Alacia Lane, international president of The Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund has announ ced its 1990 scholarships. The $4,000 Doris Mullen Scholarship will be awarded to a Whirly-Girl for use in obtaining advanced add-on or transition helicopter ratings. Scott of Howmet • Howmet John C. Scott has joined Howmet as vice-president— human resources. Scott comes to Howmet from Insiku where he served as vice-president— operations and principal human resources executive. • AAR AAR Oklahoma has appointed Gerard Hogan sales manager of its Regional Airline Services Division. Hogan was most recently international market ing manager for Sundstrand Turbomach. Peter R. Davis has joined AAR Aircraft Turbine Center as director of expendables. Davis was most recently a product manager for Daubert Coated Products. • Kleinwort Benson London merchant bank Klein- wort Benson has created a new subsidiary specialising in leas ing and finance for the aviation industry. Peter Crutchfield and Peter Graham, who both have senior experience in the aviation and finance worlds, will be joint managing directors of the operation, christened Airstream Finance. • Emery Worldwide Emery Worldwide, the new freight operation created following the purchase of Emery Air Freight by Consoli dated Freightways, announces the following appointments: vice-president administration and operations support, James Schutzenhofer; VP Inter national, Brian Costar; VP North America, Roger Piazza; VP corporate counsel, Eberhard Schmoller; VP controller, Roger Sievers; VP sales, Tom Teraoka; VP aircraft operations, Charles Zubarik; and VP freight operations, John Zarras. • Sikorsky Aircraft Sikorsky Aircraft has appointed Larry Bingaman director of communications. He was previously corporate press relations manager for United Technologies. • Lockheed Lockheed has announced a major reorganisation (Flight, last week) which includes formation of a Technology Services Group and establish ment of a corporate anti submarine warfare office in Washington D.C. The new Technology Services Group represents a reorganisation of Lockheed companies providing Space Shuttle processing, sys tems integration, engineering sciences, aircraft and airport facilities modernisation and maintenance, and data processing and consulting. The new group will be headed by Donald C. Jones, who has been president of the Missile Systems Division of Lockheed Missiles and Space. The new Washing ton anti-submarine warfare office will be responsible for co ordinating ASW-related new business activities for the corporation's aeronautical, missiles and space, and elec tronics groups. It will be headed by Edward Waller, a retired US Navy Vice Admiral who is currently vice-president and general manager—government programmes at Aeronautical Systems. Jack Gordon, assistant general manager of Lockheed's Skunk Works, has been appointed vice-president. D McDonnell Douglas Dr Dev Banerjee has been named director of technology at McDonnell Douglas Helicopter while Charles W. Hughes fills the newly created position of director of engineering for the MDX light helicopter programme. Banerjee succeeds Andrew H. Logan, who became director of Helicopter design. Hughes has led the MDX engineering effort since the concept was introduced in 1986. • Tracor Tracor has established Tracor Aviation Systems Group; David M. McElroy has been named group vice-president managing the company's services to the commercial airline, general aviation, and commercial aircraft manufacturer markets. McElroy is the former president of Cross Continent Aircraft Services. • McAlpine McAlpine Helicopters has elec ted James McAlpine to the board. Chief Pilot David Lewis has been appointed sales manager with special responsibility for police and EMS operations. Christopher Forrest is corporate sales manager. New chief pilot is Max Kenworthy and Graham Cotton becomes operations manager. In the engineering department Peter Robinson is appointed avionics manager and Ray Smith chief engineer, avionics. Gold medal for Aermacchi's Bazzochi Aermacchi managing director Ing Ermanno Bazzochi has been awarded the Italian company's Aeronautical Gold Medal. According to the citation, Bazzochi's name "is irrevocably linked with the revival of the post-war Italian aeronautical industry.
