CCCP-S 96-300 A3POCDAOT Ilyushin goes the distance Flight tests indicate that the new Ilyushin 11-96-300, a 300-seat wide-body, will meet its ambitious range target, according to Ilyushin's deputy chief designer, Igor Katyrev. A fuel-burn of six tonnes per hour recorded during flight at maximum weight suggests that the four-engined aircraft, whose closest Western equivalent is the still- to-fly 375-seat Airbus Industrie A340, will indeed carry its 40 tonnes maximum payload of passengers and cargo some 7,000km, and enable Soviet carrier Aeroflot to achieve a full passenger load of 300 on routes of up to 9,000km.
