AEROSPACE APPOINTMENTS A high profile for you — and for us The profile of Gulf Air has dramatically altered during the last decade. Expansion — only part of the story — has radically increased the number of flights, the size of our network and the range of our activities. We now fly to 34 cities worldwide, transporting over three million passengers and 45,000 tonnes of cargo every year, on an unduplicated network of some 110,000 miles. We have invested considerably in new aircraft, refurbishment, offices and staff. But more than growth, a transformation has been effected since we ceased to be merely the inter-Gulf airline. In a few short years, our passenger service, our engineering, our cargo operation and our efficiency have all received open recognition (and, in many cases, awards) within this vast international marketplace. Gulf Air has come of age. So, where do we go from here? With your contribution, as a senior market research professional, we envisage further significant developments which will enhance our all-round service and scope, and our drive to become a star player in the first division. You will be based in Bahrain, a crucial member of a small corporate planning team, providing the information upon which Board decisions are made. Your brief will be the definition of market trends, appraisal of Gulf Air's reputation in the field, the identification of trading potential and the provision of data to support the decision-making process. The MARKET RESEARCH MANAGER role naturally entails a high degree of liaison with top management so, in addition to all your other qualities and attributes, you must be capable of presenting cogently and credibly at the highest levels. A market research decision making background goes without saying although you need not have operated within the airline industry. Analytical skills, an incisive mind and a mature approach to marketing/ planning challenges are all paramount. Accustomed as you are to the responsibilities and demands of market research management, you may be surprised by the benefits and lifestyle attached to a career with Gulf Air. For instance, your lax-free salary is accompanied by numerous allowances, especially if married with children. Your rent-free and fully-furnished apartment with heavily subsidised utility costs will be located close to every amenity, including the beach Bahraini facilities are excellent — shopping, education, leisure and entertainment. The climate is exceptionally good, the social life accommodating. Europeans quickly settle into the environment which is politically calm and genuinely welcoming.
