UTILITY AIRCRAFT DIRECTORY and the stretched 19-passenger -200. The latest -212, certificated in April 1989, has a 6,400kg maximum take-off weight and 1,850kg payload. The -203F freighter ver sion, in comparison has a 2,300kg payload at a 6,500kg gross weight. Although available as the all-cargo Exped iter I, with 7,260kg gross weight and 2,270kg payload, Fairchild's Metro III is offered in configurations other than the basic 19-pas senger regional airliner, including mixed passenger/cargo. Another 19-seat regional airliner, British Aerospace's Jetstream 31, has been sold for utility use. The Garrett TPE331-powered aircraft has a 1,805kg payload and options available include a quick-change 18-seat/12- seat executive interior. Designed from the outset to be suited equally to passenger and cargo operations, CASA's C.212 Aviocar has a rear loading ramp as standard. The latest Series 300, certificated in December 1987, can carry 26 passengers or 2,700kg of cargo, such as three LD3 containers. Although the basic Aviocar is powered by Garrett TPE331s, a PT6A- powered C.212P is available. Designed more exclusively for the regional airline market than its smaller stablemate already mentioned, Embraer's EMB-120 Bra silia is offered nevertheless in configurations other than the basic 30-seat airliner. These include all-cargo and mixed passenger/cargo with 24/26 seats and space for 900kg of cargo. Powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW118s, the EMB-120 first flew in July 1983. Shorts' Sherpa is a freighter version of the twin-fin 330-200 regional airliner, complete with rear loading ramp. A 30-passenger air craft in airliner guise, the Sherpa is capacious enough to accommodate four LD3s. Best known as a 35-seat regional airliner, the Saab 340 is nonetheless available in 15- passenger/1,815kg cargo "combi", quick- change and all-cargo versions. The original 340A flew in January 1983 and was replaced in production last year by the 340B with uprated General Electric CT7-9 turboprops, giving a 3,670kg payload. UP TO 20,000kg Were in not for the presence of Canadair's CL-215 amphibian at the top of this weight class, few of the types listed in the group would warrant inclusion in this directory, which otherwise have an upper weight limit of around 15,000kg. That would still encompass the Bromon BR2000—if the programme survives its pre sent financial difficulties. Born out of another bankrupt project, the Ahrens 404, and using the same Puerto Rican factory, the Bromon is planned to be available in 46-passenger BR2000P airliner, cargo 2000C and military- transport 2000M versions of the basic CT7- 9B-powered aircraft. Financially more secure, with a potential Aeroflot requirement for 150 aircraft, Czechoslovakia's Let L-610 is to be offered to Western customers with CT7-9Bs in place of the locally designed Motorlet M602 turbo- props. First flown in December 1988 and set for Soviet certification late this year, the L-610 is a 40-passenger regional airliner also available in passenger/cargo and all-cargo configurations. A freight door is fitted as standard and payload is 3,800kg. The value of building utility capability into a regional airliner is ably demonstrated by the Airtech (CASA/IPTN) CN-235, which has an airframe able to carry 45 passengers in pres surised comfort but comes complete with rear loading ramp through which the CT7-9- powered aircraft can accommodate four LD3 containers in all-cargo configuration. A "combi" layout enables the CN-235 to carry 19 passengers and two LD3s.
