Monarch Airlines, a UK carrier, operates inclusive-tour and seat-only flights from major UK regional airports mainly to Mediterranean destinations. In 1988 the airline inaugurated long-haul flights to Florida with Boeing 757- 200ER aircraft and the airline is to begin Luton-New York (JFK) on May 22, 1990 and Luton-Boston on June 11. In addition, the company operates scheduled passenger services from Luton to Mahon, Malaga, and Tenerife. International services are flown to Bangkok, Dhaka, Kathmandu, Singapore and, new in 1989, Penang. History: The company was formed in 1948 and was known until December 1972 as Union of Burma Airways; the present title was adopted on 1 April, 1989. Naganaganani Compagnie Nationale, of Burkina Faso, is a newly formed cargo carrier, Nakanihon Airline Service is a Japanese air taxi operator which plans to operate scheduled services from Nagoya in October 1990 when it takes delivery of a Fokker 50. Namib Air, the national carrier of Namibia, operates scheduled passenger and cargo services from Windhoek to Keetmanshoop, Luderitz, Swakopmund, Alexander Bay, Tsumeb, Oshakati, Rundu, Katima Mulilo, Maun, Cape Town and Johannesburg. Jet service from Windhoek to Johannesburg was inaugurated on 6 August, 1989 with a Boeing 737-200. Charter flights are also operated. Trans- Namib, which is a state corporation, holds the entire shareholding of the airline. History: The airline was established in 1946 as South West Air Transport, and began operations in 1948. The present title was adopted in 1978. The company became the Air Arm of the National Transport Corporation of Namibia, a body established by law in 1986 to take over all transport matters in the country.
