PEOPLE NASA Dr Lee Beach has been ap pointed deputy director of NASA's Langley Research Cen ter. He is director for the Na tional AeroSpace Plane Director ate in the NASA Headquarters' Office of Aeronautics and Space Technology. NBAA Jonathan Howe, president of the National Business Aircraft Asso ciation (NBAA), has resigned. In a statement he said that he felt the need for a change after five successful years with the NBAA. Terry Su Lu Min DRAGONAIR Terry Su Lu Min has been ap pointed assistant manager, plan ning and international affairs, at Dragonair. His duties will be to assist with planning, route nego tiations and liaison with the Civil Aviation Administration of China. WRIGHT TROPHY Benjamin Cosgrove, senior vice- president, engineering, at Boeing Commercial Airplane, was awarded this year's Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy at a special Aero Club of Washing ton banquet on 13 December. Cosgrove, who has been with Boeing for 42 years, was awarded the trophy "...for a life time contribution to commerical aviation safety and to the tech nology development of four gen erations of Boeing commercial jet transport aircraft". AIA The Aerospace Industries Asso ciation (AIA) has elected officers to several committees. Hal Hal- vorsen, manager, engineering specifications and standards at Grumman, has been elected chairman of the technical man agement committee, succeeding Erven Maki, manager of special projects, Westinghouse Electric. Jack Johnson, vice-president, manufacturing, Palm Bay opera tions for Harris, becomes vice- chairman. Norman Augustine, chairman and chief executive officer, Martin Marietta, is the new honorary chairman of the AIA's international council, re placing Dennis Picard, chairman and chief executive officer of Raytheon. John Hayden, vice- president, Boeing, corporate headquarters; Washington DC, was elected chairman, and Wil- lard Mitchell, senior vice- president, Teledyne Industries International is made vice- chairman. The product support committee has elected as chair man Robert Aycock, programme director, product support star quality, Lockheed Aeronautical Systems, is to succeed Ronald Raymond, director of logistics at Honeywell. Thomas Fleming, manager, strategy implementa tion for Bell Helicopter Textron, was elected vice-chairman. Jo seph Casey, deputy director, supply operations at Grumman, becomes chairman of the spare parts working committee. He succeeds A J "Bud" Farrington, director, customer support at Garrett auxiliary power division, Allied-Signal Aerospace. Le onard Shneeberger, manager, re pair services administration, Sunstrand, is elected vice- chairman. Michael Stanley, manager, technical publications, Boeing Defense & Space, be comes chairman of the service publications working committee. He succeeds C E "Ted" Walter, manager, product support at Martin Marietta Information Sys tems. Shirley Hart, manager, commercial publications, Bell Helicopter Textron, is elected vice-chairman. FRENCH AIR FORCE Gene Bernard Norlain has been appointed commander of the Armee de l'Air Force aerienne tactique, responsible for France's air defence. LOCKHEED Lockheed Aircraft Service has appointed Robert Mole to the position of director-international business development, Pacific Rim. Mole was previously with Lockheed Aircraft (Asia) and was also area director — Far East at the company's headquar ters in Tokyo. NORTHWEST Malcolm Bromham has been named vice-president for North west Airlines' Atlantic region, based at the airline's regional headquarters near London Gatwick Airport. Bromham was previously vice-president Atlan tic for Continental Airlines. DOWTY GROUP The Dowty Group has an nounced three senior appoint ments. Keith Tofield, formerly managing director of DoWty's polymer engineering division, has been appointed director of corporate development. Andrew Walker, formerly managing di rector of Dowty Maritime, is to become managing director of the polymer engineering division. Stephen Grant, previously a lawyer in the corporate finance department, has been appointed company secretary Grant is to take over from Mike Walker, who has been appointed director and general manager of Dowty Group Services. AER LINGUS Aer Lingus has appointed Sam Young as chief executive — fi nance. He was previously fi nance director of the Angliss Group in Australia. DEE HOWARD Matthew Donohue has been elected new Dee Howard presi dent. He was previously senior vice-president and chief operat ing officer of the San Antonio- based company. MCDONNELL DOUGLAS Edward "Pete" Aldridge, is to leave his position as president of McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems, McLean, Virginia. He will take up the position of president and chief executive of the Aerospace Corporation, a federally funded research and development centre providing engineering and technical sup port for US military launch and space systems. A successor to Aldridge's McDonnell Douglas position will be announced later. Michael West STANLEY AVIATION Michael West has been ap pointed as European sales and marketing manager for Stanley Aviation, a Canadian member of Flight Refuelling Group.
