ASIAN AEROSPACE SPECIAL w Korea, which already supplies components for the MD-11, wants more work on the MD-12 Boeing 787 [unofficial title of Boeing's future large aircraft study]. When we talk about small portions of the MD-12, it's still a bigger amount than other programmes, but we don't want to eliminate our capacity for others." So the RoK consortium is not yet binding itself exclusively to the MD-12: "Revenue and risk-sharing in the MD-12 are being discussed. We are not discussing an equity shareholding in Douglas Aircraft yet," adds Samsung's Kim. Among the overall plans of the Korean aerospace players, DHI's ambitions are well- founded. Through Boeing and numerous subcontractors, including Grumman, Rock well and LTV, the company has made stringers, ribs, frames and machined parts for the 737, 747, 757 and 767. It makes wing ribs, sub-frames and section 44 ma chined parts for the 747 and is bidding for leading-edge sections of the 777. It has a major share of the Dornier Do.328 pro gramme, supplying fuselage shells under a $180 million contract which runs until 2003, so far. The company also supplies Boeing de Havilland Canada with Dash 8 nose and tailcones, Hispano-Suiza with parts for the Airbus A320 thrust-reverser and MBB with the A320 flap-support unit. TRACK RECORDS Samsung and KA have significant track records in the sub-assembly field. Samsung supplies components for the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as well as for several Boeing programmes, including the 747, 757 and 767. Like DHI, it is bidding for parts of the 777. KA, which began overhauling Korean air force aircraft in 1978, graduated to sub-assembly and component manufacture a decade later, when it began shipping wingtip extensions and flap-track fairings for the Boeing 747, as well as fuselage components for the MD-11. KA furthered its own expertise by building the Chang- D-Check & Terminating MODS. Need a slot « We can make available a nose to tail slot for a single B747 major line now through end '93!!!
