PEOPLE DOUGLAS AIRCRAFT McDonnell Douglas has named David Hinson executive vice- president, marketing and busi ness development for all commercial activities at its Douglas Aircraft division. He was formerly chairman and chief executive officer of Midway Air lines and has also held positions with Northwest Airlines and United Airlines. MDC MISSILES Robert Brand has been ap pointed vice-president, business management, for McDonnell Douglas (MDC) Missile Systems, succeeding John Judy, who is to move to headquarters as staff vice-president/associate general counsel. Brand will be chief fi nancial officer, and will be re sponsible for the internal support and services division. He was previously MDC corpo rate controller. THORN EMI Thorn EMI has named Julian Forth senior sales and marketing manager for the electronics com mand systems division, where he will focus on naval command support. He has worked in sales and marketing for the last five years, concentrating on naval combat systems and naval elec: tronic-warfare systems. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Jerry Hines has been appointed president, Smiths Industries In ternational division at Stamford, Connecticut, replacing Clarence Sikes, who retired on 1 January after 31 years with the company. The division represents the com pany's worldwide marketing ef fort. Hines will be responsible for overseeing its operations. He has been with Smiths since 1972, most recently in the posi tion of vice-president, interna tional military marketing. FLIGHTSAFETY FlightSafety International has appointed Ray Santa to the new position of international sales manager, co-ordinating the com pany's overseas sales efforts other than those in Canada, and supervising the international sales representatives. DOWTY Christopher Bunker, finance di rector of Westland, will succeed Reg Moore as group financial director of Dowty. Moore, due to retire in March, will continue as financial director until Bun ker joins in August. TEXTRON LYCOMING David Assard has been named president of the Textron Lycom ing turbine engine division. He was formerly vice-president and general manager of the com pany's turbine products. AveUno Zapanta PHILIPPINE AIRLINES Avelino Zapanta, previously vice-president of sales, has been appointed senior vice-president, marketing and sales, succeeding James Caputo, who continues as senior vice-president and mar keting and sales consultant to the president. Pastor Pangilinan, senior vice-president, corporate planning and services, has been redesignated senior vice-presi dent, administration. Ponciano Tuano has been appointed vice- president, maintenance and en gineering. He has been with Philippine Airlines since 1954, most recently as assistant vice- president, shop services. Jesus Valerio is the new acting vice- president, corporate planning. He has been special assistant to Belmonte since March 1991, and is also vice-president for corpo rate planning in the Government service insurance system. Mila Abad has become vice-president, advertising and marketing sup port; Aproniano Boonggaling, vice-president, in-flight services in place of Abad; and Capt Jacinto Ortega, vice-president, safety and security. GENERAL DYNAMICS Retired Adm William Crowe, former chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), has been elected to the board of directors of General Dynamics. Crowe is a professor of geopolitics at the University of Oklahoma and also a counsellor at the Center for Strategic and International Stud ies in Washington, DC. He re tired from the US Navy in 1989 after 43 years, the last four as JCS chairman. ICAOPA Phil Boyer, president of AOPA- USA, has been elected president of the International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associ ations (ICAOPA). US AOPA Dr William Hamilton has been elected chairman of the Ne braska Aeronautics Commission, of which he has been a member since 1989. He is the US Aircraft Pilots' and Owners' Association (AOPA's) representative for the central region of the USA. Seth Golbey has been named vice- president, marketing special pro jects, responsible for developing new concepts in association communications with members, pilots and the public. He was formerly editor of AOPA's Pilot magazine and AOPA's Aviation USA airport directory and sourcebook. Steven Mays has been appointed director, mem bership marketing, overseeing all marketing operations as head of the in-house marketing and graphics production unit. In his previous position he directed membership marketing and promotion at the National Rifle Association of America. EMBRAER Manoel de Oliveira has been appointed financial director for Embraer, succeeding Alberto Franco Faria Marcondes, who is retiring. De Oliveira joined the company in 1986 as assistant to the financial director. He was most recently general manager of the financial department. Be fore joining Embraer, Oliveira was a major with the Brazilian air force. CHILEAN AIRPORTS Edwin Weil Wohlke has been appointed national director of airports by Chilean president Patricio Aylwin. He replaces Pedro Cordova Vielma, who will move to a position at the public works ministry. RYDER Ryder Airline Services, a division of Ryder System, has re-organi sed its finance, administration and development functions. Dan Komnenovich is elected senior vice-president, finance and de velopment and Dennis Wagner becomes vice-president, finance. Komnenovich was previously with Aviall, as director of finan cial services. Wagner was previ ously director of finance for Scottish-based Caledonian Air- motive. Paul Goffredi has been appointed senior manager, Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 and PW100 regional airline sales and service for Ryder Aviall, another subsidiary of Ryder System.
