WORLD AIRLINE DIRECTORY History: The company was formed in September 1962 by the Indonesian Government as the second state airline. Its primary objective was to take over the network of internal services developed by the air force since 1958. In October 1978, the airline was taken over by the national carrier, Garuda. Middle East Airlines Air Liban SAL (MEA) operates a network of scheduled passenger and cargo services connecting Beirut with points throughout the Middle East, Europe and North and West Africa. Major share holders are Intra Investment (62.5%) and Air France (28.5%). History: MEA was founded and began operations in 1945, adopting its present title in November 1965, when the airline was merged with Air Liban. In 1969, MEA took over Lebanese International Airways.
