Transbrasil Linhas Aereas, a Brazilian carrier, operates scheduled passenger and cargo services from Brasilia to points in south-east and north-east Brazil and a cargo service to Miami. The carrier operates a thrice-weekly service from Sao Paulo to Orlando with Boeing 767- 200s. Transbrasil is owned by the Fontana family. History: Transbrasil, known until June 1972 as Sadia, was formed in Sao Paulo in 1955 to carry meat for the Sadia Organisation. Transportes Aereos Salvador was absorbed in 1962. Trans Canal Airways, formed in March 1991, is a new scheduled passenger and cargo operator being evaluated by the Panama Civil Aviation Authority. Non-scheduled flights will be served on demand. Trans European Airways (TEA) suspended operations in September 1991, seeking composition procedure, the Belgian equivalent of the USA's Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, operates passenger charter and inclusive-tour services. TEA has established similar ventures in Bel gium, France, Italy and Switzerland. The major share holder is its managing director G P Gutelman. Transkei Airways (TAC), the national airline of the Republic of Transkei, founded in 1976, operates sched uled passenger services linking the capital Umtata with South African destinations, including Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth. New routes from Umtata to Cape Town, Margate and Pietermaritzburg have been granted, but are not now in operation. The carrier also provides domestic scheduled helicopter services within Transkei to Lusikisiki, Mkambati game reserve and Mzamba Wild Coast Casino.
