These routes include Boston, New York and London Heathrow. On 31 January, 1992, the carrier filed for Chapter 11 protection. In July 1986, TWA sold 50% of its PARS reservation system to Northwest Airlines. Pan Am Express, the feeder-line of Pan American World Airways, was bought from the Pan Am liquidator in December 1991. TWA expects to take on and operate the entire fleet and schedules, with Pan Am Express staff, but in TW Express livery. Routes: TWA operates an extensive network of sched uled passenger services in the USA, connecting over 100 destinations. Transatlantic services were operated to many points in Europe and the Middle East. TWA's main traffic hubs were situated at New York JFK. TWA has ownership of three routes, namely, Baltimore, Philadelphia and St Louis. History: TWA was formed on 1 October, 1930, as Transcontinental and Western Air, through a merger of a part of Western Air Express (the other part became Western Airlines), TAT-Maddux and Pittsburgh Aviation Industries. The present name was adopted in May 1950. In January 1979, Trans World Corporation (TWC) became TWA's parent company. In December 1982, TWC shareholders voted to sell TWA and, on 1 February, 1984, TWA was established as a separate, entirely publicly owned company. On 26 September, 1985, TWA was taken over by New York investor Carl Icahn, who acquired 52% of the company's shares. Transporte Aereo Rioplatense (TAR), an Argentine cargo-carrier, operates worldwide cargo charters, includ ing regular flights to North America and Europe. History: The company was formed in December 1970 by its president, Carlos Martinez Guerrero, and associ ates. Operations began in March 1971. Fleet: one Boeing 707-320C.
