PEOPLE FIRST 1,000 FLYING HOURS Students on the first joint sponsored course of Britannia Airways and the Cabair Group at the UK's London School of Flying have qualified with Commercial Pilots Licence/Instrument Ratings and more than l,000h of flying entered in each logbook. The scheme gives them six months' initial training, followed by two years as Cabair flying instructors, before they join the airline as first officers. NORTHROP Oliver Boileau, Northrop corpo rate vice-president and president and general manager of its B2 division.has been elected to the company's board of directors. He succeeds F J Manzella, the for mer executive vice-president, operations, who has now retired. Boileau joined Northrop in 1989 to manage the B-2 division and the development and production of the B-2 stealth bomber. Aulana Peters and Wallace Solberg have been nominated to stand for election to the board in May. Peters is a partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, and is on the board of directors of 3M, the New York Stock Exchange and IDS mutual funds. Solberg served as vice-president and gen eral manager of Northrop's for mer Defense Systems division before becoming vice-president and general manager of the com pany's electronics systems divi sion. He was appointed to lead the aircraft division in 1991. MCDONNELL DOUGLAS Dean Bergman has been elected president of McDonnell Douglas Helicopter, succeeding Thomas Gunn, who has returned to the corporate office as vice-presi dent, special projects. Borgman has been vice-president of the company's commercial heli copter programmes since Janu ary. He was previously vice- Teledyne Continental Motors, aircraft products. He was previ ously chief operations officer of Omni Air in Dallas, Texas. president of the advanced prod uct development and technology division. Patrick McGinnis has been appointed to the new role of executive vice-president. Be tween 1988 and 1991 he served as vice-president and general manager for the business and general support division of McDonnell Douglas Space Sys tems. In January 1991 he re joined McDonnell Douglas as vice-president and chief fi nancial officer for Douglas Air craft. Richard Erkeneff has been made president of McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems. He was previously the executive vice-president of Electronics Sys tems, and succeeds Edward Aldridge, who has accepted a position with The Aerospace Corporation. John Strickland has been named staff vice- president, corporate ethics, and ombudsman for McDonnell Douglas. He succeeds Bud Coyle as ombudsman. Strickland was previously group director of human resources for McDonnell Douglas Helicopter. He will chair the Corporate Ethics Council, act as principal corpo rate representative to the De fense Industry Initiative, and serve as corporate liaison among the component ombudsmen. AACI The Geneva-based Airports As sociation Council International (AACI) has elected as its new chairman Jack Moffatt, general manager of operations and re gional trunk airports with Aus tralia's Federal Airports Cor poration. He succeeds Lim Hock San, who resigned as AACI chairman on taking up the post of chief executive officer and president of Singapore's United Industrial. Moffatt, who was pre viously General Manager of Ade laide International Airport, was appointed to his present posi tion in 1990. He was president of the Asia/Pacific Region of the former Airport Operators Coun cil International during 1990, and has served on the AACI governing board for the last two years. TELEDYNE Jeffrey Smith has been ap pointed director of product sup port sales at Alabama-based AVIATION CONSULTING Jonathan Watson has been ap pointed senior associate of Avia tion Consulting, the Connecti cut-based management consult ing firm specialising in business and commercial aviation. He joins Aviation Consulting from the aircraft charter and manage ment company, Executive Jet International, where he was executive vice-president. radar and electro-optic systems for aircraft. John Ritter has been made vice-president of finance and administration. He previ ously held the post of chief financial officer at CSD in San Jose, California. COMMODORE Robert Finn has been appointed vice-president, marketing and sales, at the Miami-based mainte nance and repair company Com modore Aviation. He previously held the same post for Page Avjet in Orlando, Florida. HAI David Carter, former chief exec utive officer of Metropolitan Helicopters, has been named di rector of safety and flight opera tions for the Helicopter Associa tion International (HAI), which represents civil helicopter opera tors around the world. Carter is relinquishing all business re sponsibilities at Metropolitan Helicopters (MHI), the company which he founded and of which he has been president and chief executive officer since 1983. TIMCO Richard Horn has joined Triad International Maintenance (TIMCO) as senior vice-presi dent, maintenance and engineer ing. He previously spent 35 years with United Airlines, dur ing which time he was ap pointed manager, airframe maintenance, at United's San Francisco maintenance opera tions center. Since leaving United, Horn has held mainte nance management positions at Aerotest, Aero Corporation and Arrow Air. UTC NORDEN SYSTEM United Technologies' (UTC's) Norden System has appointed Joe Dittrich vice-president of business development. Dittrich joins Norden from Texas Instru ments, where he held a key business development position marketing products such as WILLESPIE Aviation engineering company Willespie Aviation has promoted Paul Bonhomme to the post of senior financial- director, with effect from 1 April. David Manton OGDEN AVIATION David Manton has taken up the post of commercial manager in Ogden Aviation's European headquarters at London Gatwick Airport. He is responsible for all the company's commercial activ ities in Europe. Manton joined Ogden Aviation in 1989. Stuart Johnston has been appointed business development manager for Europe.
