PEOPLE Hans Mirka AMERICAN AIRLINES Hans Mirka has been named senior vice-president, interna tional, at American Airlines, which has moved its interna tional headquarters to London, UK. He was previously vice- president, international, at the carrier's Dallas/Fort Worth head quarters. Mirka will oversee all American's passenger and cargo sales and services activities in Europe, the Pacific, the Middle East, South-East Asia and Africa. CANADIAN AIRLINES Capt Bruce Lebans has been appointed director of flight op erations training at Canadian Airlines International, with ef fect from 1 May. His previous position was that of chief pilot, training, for the airline. LOCKHEED Ned Duffield has been named vice-president of programmes for Lockheed Aircraft Service - Ontario. He replaces Robert Chambers, who becomes vice- present of operations. Duffield was most recently the company's general programme manager and, before that, served with the US Air Force for 32 years, retir ing with the rank of Colonel. Kay Van Zandt has been ap pointed to the new position of director of business develop ment/new initiatives. She previ ously held the post of general department manager of business development operations. HONEYWELL Charlie Bennett has been ap pointed regional airlines market ing manager for Honeywell's business and commuter aviation systems division, based in Phoe nix, Arizona. He was most re cently international marketing manager for the division's field marketing department. Bennett replaces John Dietrich, who is to retire. SAAB MISSILES Jan Hammerstrom has been ap pointed market director of Saab Military Aircraft. His previous position of president of Saab Missiles will be taken up by the present executive vice-president, Anders Andersson. Hammer strom had been with Saab Mis siles since 1974, and was previously executive vice-presi dent of the company. Andersson joined the company in 1965, following service with the Swed ish air force. AMERICA WEST Ted Phillips has been appointed to the new position of vice- president of scheduling at Amer ica West Airlines. He was most recently vice-president of plan ning at Midway Airlines, having previously served for 17 years with Piedmont Aviation. INMARSAT Richard Fong of Singapore has been elected chairman of the Inmarsat Council for the coming year. He succeeds Saad Demyati of Saudi Arabia, whose term ended with the Council's 42nd meeting in April. Fong is vice- president of mobile communica tions with the Telecommunica tion Authority of Singapore. Other officers elected during the meeting are Jean Paul Brillaud of France, vice-chairman; Dan Swearingen of the USA, chair man of the Council's advisory committee on technical and op erational matters; Nick Calinoiu of Canada, chairman of the fi nance committee; and Joslyn Read of the USA, chairperson of the traffic group meeting. IVEX The following executive ap pointments have been an nounced by visual-system manufacturer Ivex: John Klip- per, chief executive officer; James Davis, vice-president of marketing and development; Paul Kingston, vice-president of sales and marketing; Peter Sher lock, vice-president of operations; and Carl Watry, vice-president of finance and administration. FLS AEROSPACE Michael Farge has been ap pointed managing director of FLS Aerospace Engineering, Eu rope's largest independent air craft-maintenance company. He will take responsibility for all of the company's aircraft engi neering and maintenance opera tions. Farge was previously senior vice-president of cus tomer support for British Aero space (Commercial Aircraft) and, before that, he was execu tive director of customer sup port for Westland subsidiary Normalair Garrett. John Weber CONTINENTAL John Weber has been appointed regional vice-president, Europe, for Continental Airlines. He will be based at the airline's Europe Region headquarters London Gatwick and will have re sponsibility for Continental's European operation. Weber pre viously held a position with Trans World Airlines. HUGHES Philip Le Pore has been named president of Hughes Technical Services, five months after as suming the position of vice- president and general manager of the division. He was previ ously vice-president and general manager of the former Hughes Simulation Systems' Arlington, Texas, operations. REDIFFUSION Peter Quast has been appointed managing director of Rediffusion Simulation, the Hughes Aircraft subsidiary based in Crawley, UK. He takes over from Jeff Sandiford, who will remain as chairman until he leaves the organisation at the end of July. Quast, a vice-president of Hughes' training and support systems group, joined Hughes in January 1990. He previously held positions with Sperry Gyro scope and Grumman Aerospace. AAI MICROFLITE Richard Neddo has been named president of AAI Microflite. Neddo has also held positions with the former Link Aviation and Singer-Link-Miles in the UK as well as being the owner of a driver-trainer company and a consultant to the fligbt-simula- tion industry. 38 FLIGHT INTERNATIONAL 13-19 MAY. 1992
