PEOPLE Steve Townes STEVENS AVIATION Steve Townes, executive vice- president of Stevens Aviation of Greenville, South Carolina, has been named chairman of the US Aviation College Advisory Board of Greenville Technical College. He succeeds Lockheed Aeromod president Matthew Hodnett. Townes, who joined Stevens in 1991 from Dee Howard of San Antonio, Texas, has served on the board during 1991-2. UTC Stephen Page has been elected executive vice-president and chief financial officer for Hart ford, Connecticut-based United Technologies (UTC). He was most recently executive vice- president and chief financial of ficer for Black & Decker. He will have worldwide responsibility for UTCs financial affairs and will also serve as a member of the corporation's management executive committee. AEA Otto Lopfe, Swissair president, is the new chairman of the Association of European Airlines (AEA). He joined Swissair in 1969. UK CAA Nigel Hughes, director of tech nology for Smiths Industries Aerospace and Defence Systems, has been appointed by the UK Civil Aviation Authority as a member of its Airworthiness Re quirements Board. Hughes, who was nominated by the Society of British Aerospace Companies, will represent aircraft manufac turers. John Lamb, previously general manager for safety and operations for BAA and who is deputy chairman of the joint aircraft-proximity hazard reports assessment panel, has been ap pointed chairman of the panel. He succeeds Geoffrey Wilkin son, formerly chief inspector of air accidents, who has retired having chaired the panel since its establishment in 1989. FALCON JET Gerard Meyer has been ap pointed to the newly created position of senior vice-president for customer relations at Teter- boro, New Jersey-based Falcon Jet. He was previously senior vice-president for customer sup port. John Diebold, vice-presi- 1992 MARY GEORGE MEMORIAL PRIZE Tara Knight, a senior automated test equipment engineer with Siemens Plessey Systems, has been presented with the UK's 1992 Mary George Memorial Prize by Sir Austin Pearce, ex-British Aerospace chairman and now chairman oj the Board of Trustees of the Science Museum. The award is sponsored jointly by the Institution of Electronics and Electrical Incorporated Engineers and the Caroline Haslett Memorial Trust. Diebold has previously held senior positions with Cessna and FlightSafety. Robert Lambert RYDER Robert Lambert has retired as senior executive vice-president for aviation at Ryder System. He plans to continue as a consultant to the company. Previously, he was president of the former Air craft Services division of Ryder System and president and chief executive of Aviall, which was acquired by Ryder in November 1985. As a result of Lambert's retirement, Marshall Taylor, president of Ryder Airline Serv ices, and John Wallace, presi dent of Ryder Aviall, will report directly to Anthony Burns, Ryder System chairman, presi dent and chief executive officer. Inventory Locator Service, a parts database linking buyer and seller, will report to Edwin Hus ton, senior executive vice- president, financial, and chief financial officer of Ryder System. ROLLS-ROYCE Barry Eccleston has been ap pointed president and chief ex ecutive officer at Rolls-Royce Industries Canada and joins the industrial power group board. He was previously the com pany's senior vice-president of commercial marketing. He suc ceeds John Cheffing, who moved to Canada in 1975. Chef fing has returned to the UK to take up the position of director of civil engines at Derby and joins the aerospace group board. MCDONNELL DOUGLAS Chuck Sayo has been named senior vice-president of pro grammes, with responsibility for military and commercial heli copters and ordnance program mes, at McDonnell Douglas' Mesa site in Arizona. He joins from the aerospace division in St Louis, where he was a senior vice-president. Pat McGinnis, who joined the helicopter com pany a year ago as executive vice-president, takes on the new title of vice-president of opera tions. He assumes responsibility for overseeing the consolidation of the helicopter company into the newly formed McDonnell Douglas Aerospace. Gerald Daniels has been promoted to vice-president and general man ager of the Harpoon/Standoff Land Attack Missile programme at McDonnell Douglas Aero space. He was the programme's senior director. AIR LITTORAL Air Littoral, recently taken over from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines by the French privately owned Euralair charter company, has appointed Marc Dufor as chair man and chief executive. Jean Bilien SNECMA Snecma, the French state-owned military and civil aero-engine manufacturer, has appointed Jean Bilien vice-president, mili tary engines, replacing Gen Jean Bonnet, who has been named charge de mission for military business. Bilien is a former pres ident of chief executive officer of CFM International. Noel For- geard has been appointed to Snecma's board of directors.
