Weather forced diversion, then holding until fuel was running out when the captain attempted a forced landing in a sandstorm. Engine failure, followed by ditching. Hit high ground in bad weather. Crashed about 1km short of the runway at Mayaguez in bad weather. About 5km out on the extended centreline of runway 23, starting an ILS approach, the aircraft hit high ground. Hit high ground in storm while positioning for approach on runway 04 at Pattimura Airport. Following loss of power on one engine, the pilot elected to land the float-equipped aircraft on the Algodon River, but hit trees on the approach. The aircraft landed on its nosewheel, resulting in its failure. The aircraft spun and broke in two, catching fire. Engine failure. Crashed while attempting to return and land. Hit high ground in bad weather. Engine failure at take-off. Crashed 1,600m short of the runway on approach to Chita. Hit high ground. Crashed on approach in bad weather. Hit high ground. Crashed on subsequent attempt to land. Hit high ground in fog after crew reported instrument failure and attempted to climb. Crashed into jungle 15km from its destination at Cruzeiro del Sol at night, possibly because of distraction from false alarms indicating cabin fire. Aircraft failed to rotate for take-off, possibly owing to overloading and a forward centre of gravity. It ran fast off the end of the runway, hitting buildings and killing about 30 people on the ground. There were 16 non-ticketed passengers on board this service, manifested as a cargo flight, and a large "crew", as well as the cargo of tea. Hit high ground 26km south-east of Skopje. The weather was stormy and had caused at least one other aircraft to divert. Hit high ground in bad weather en route Santa Ana-La Paz. Crashed at night en route Curacao-Miami in area of high thunderstorm activity. Engine failure after take-off for cargo flight to Mitu. The No 3 engine separated, probably because of fatigue or corrosion in one of the wing-pylon fuse pins, which caused it to fracture. While separating, the engine hit the No 4 engine, breaking it off also. While trying to return to land, the captain lost control of the aircraft, which crashed into a block of flats killing many people on the ground. 30 FLIGHT INTERNATIONAL 27 January - 2 February, 1993
