Maersk I WORLD AIRLINE DIRECTORY LTE International Airways (XO) is a Spanish charter carrier operating passenger services between mainland Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands and Austria, Finland, Italy, Norway and Switzerland in Europe and the Dominican Republic. The carrier is a member of the LTU-Group, based in Dusseldorf. History: the company was founded in December 1983, started operations in 1984 and was known as Lufttransport Sud until January 1988. Lufthansa CityLine (CL), formerly DLT and a Lufthansa wholly owned subsidiary from 1 January, 1993, is responsible for Lufthansa's European non stop services with aircraft with up to 100 seats. In its summer-season 1993 timetable the carrier will fly to 60 destinations in 20 European countries. Since November 1992, Cityline has operated the first Canadair Regional Jets. Flights from Billund and Copenhagen to London Gatwick have been added to the international services already operated. Charter flights are operated mainly from the Nordic countries to Mediterranean destinations. Routes: Billund to Amsterdam, Brussels, London Gatwick and Stockholm; Copenhagen to London Gatwick and Faroe Islands. Maersk operates a domes tic network of scheduled-passenger services from Copenhagen, including Ronne, Odense, Skrydstrup, Esbjerg, Billund and Vagar. History: Maersk Air was formed in 1969. UK operations were launched in 1984 between Billund and Southend, using de Havilland Dash 7s. It trans ferred operations to Gatwick in 1990. Subsidiaries: the company has a 38% shareholding in Danair A/S, owns Maersk Helicopters, supporting North Sea oil fields and owns Maersk Air Cargo, which is the main sales agent for international carriers, together with Maersk Travel with ten travel agencies. It has a 40% shareholding in TPL Group (The Plimsoll Line). Brymon European Airways (the merged Birmingham European Airways and Brymon Airways) is a fully owned subsidiary of TPL.
