Air New Zealand [NZ] operates an extensive network of scheduled passenger and cargo services internation ally and to 28 main domestic points. The airline was privatised in December 1988. Major shareholders are: Brierley Investments (42.5%), Qantas (19.9%) and Japan Air Lines (7.5%). The remaining 30% share holding is owned by the New Zealand public and the airline's employees; the New Zealand Government holds one "Kiwi" Share. History: the airline was founded in 1939 as Tasman Empire Airways, a joint British-Australian-New Zeal and company (owned 20:30:50), formed to operate services linking New Zealand and Australia.
