The airline was renamed Malaysian Airways (MAL) in 1963, when Malaysia was formed. The Governments of Malavsia and Singapore acquiredjoint majority control of MAL in 1966. It was renamed Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA) in 1967. It was restructured into two separate airlines.
