MILITARY AIRCRAFT OF TMC WORLD Hawk BAe offers single-seat combat variants of its Hawk advanced jet-trainer. The Hawk 200 series fitted with the YVesringhouse APG-66H radar can earn- a variety of air- to-air and air-to-surface missiles, including the Loral Sidewinder. Indonesia has ordered 16 Hawk 200s and eight Hawk 100s. The two-seat Hawk 100 is also intended for use in the ground-attack role. The original Hawk T1 trainer for the RAF was first flown in August 1974, and the initial export version was the 50 Series. Current production variants are the 60, 100, and 200 Series. The first pre- production single-seat Hawk 200 flew in April 1987. The aircraft has some 80% commonality with the two-seat Hawk 100. It is powered by an uprated 26kN Adour 871. The two-seat Hawk 100 is an enhanced ground- attack/advanced-training aircraft, equipped witrTinertial navigation, head-up display and weapons-aiming com puter, optional laser or FLIR and improved cockpit con trols and displays, all linked by 1553B digital databus.. MSSA The BX2T Defender is based on the BN2 Islander airframe, over 1,200 of which have been deliv ered to customers in 130 countries. Current operators of the turbine-engined Pefender include the British Army, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, Moroccan Ministry of Fisheries and the Cyprus Police. The piston-engined variant is in operation with die Indian Navy, Belgian Army, Philippine Navy and Belize Defence Force among others. All variants can be fitted with a variety of surveil lance equipment for offshore patrol or light maritime attack. BN2T-4R MSSA is a joint development with Westinghouse Electronic Systems, and is based on the BN2T airframe with a larger wing and strengthened fuselage. Onboard systems include a 360° APG-66 radar, infra-red imaging system, real-time video datalink and comprehensive communications/navigation systems. Introduced in 1994, BN2T-4S Defender 4000 is'the lat est in the Defender range and has been designed specifi cally for maritime ana border surveillance tasks. The aircraft also features a redesigned nose cone and extend ed fuselage giving increased cabin space to accommodate a range of mission equipment. More powerful Allison 250-Bl 7F engines and increased fuel load bestow greater range and endurance. qii'iMl'in'JIil'ia C-23 Sherpa The C-23 Sherpa is a multi-role military variant of the 330-200 turboprop regional airliner. The latter is out of production, but Shorts is buying back SD3-60 aircraft from airlines to meet additional US Army demand for the type. The Sherpa was first flown on 6 August, 1984. The USAF ordered 18 C-23 As, powered by the PT6A-45R engines, for high-priority distribution in Europe. The US Army National Guard initially ordered 16 C-23Bs. The C-23B, although externally similar to the 330, has several structural modifications and is powered bv the PT6-65 AR engines used on the Shorts 360-200.'The production model of the Shorts C-23 A is the C-23B, 16 of which have been ordered by the US Armv National Guard. The aircraft features several structural modifica tions from the 330, and is powered by the PT6-65AR engines as fitted to the 360-200. Access to the square-sec tion cargo hold is via a large forward freight-door, inward-opening rear side doors or the rear-ramp door. The hydraulically operated rear cargo-door/ramp allows loading and para-dropping of cargo containers or vehi cles. Customers: C-23A: USA 18; C-23B: USA 16. USA kWii!k.]t'lli.!;i,',|a;;M;!a^!!^>ilail C-12 King Air/1900 Beechcraft has delivered six Model 1900s to the USAF, for use by the Air National Guard under the designation C-12J. Taiwan has also received Model 1900s, while Egypt ordered eight, including some for special missions, believed to be for electronic intelli gence. The USAF purchased 40 twin-turboprop Super King Air 200Cs as C-12Fs, following an initial lease peri od. Other military King Air versions include the C/UC/RC-12, RU-21 and T-44 for the US forces, together with maritime-surveillance variants for export customers. Hawker 800 The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force has taken delivery of its first U-125A search-and-rescue aircraft, based on the Hawker 800 business jet, and plans to procure 27. The Japan Air Self-Defence Force already operates four U-125 flight-inspection aircraft. The L SAF operates six similarly equipped Hawker 800s, des ignated C-29As. Customers: Japan 30 planned, USA 6.
