AIRLINERS OF THE WORLD ARIA will operate 20 Il-96M/Ts, subject to US Exim Bank financing aircraft has a shorter fuselage than that of its predecessor, and has been optimised for long- range performance. The first prototype was flown in September 1988, and the aircraft was certificated in December 1992. •ynstaa Des*» Bureau, 45 Urangradsky Prospekt, Moscow, 125190, Russia. TeL-+7 [095) 943 85 09; Fax:+7 (0951 212 21 32 ; Telex: 411956 SOKOL IL-62M/MK Production of die I1-62MK, die latest version of this four-engined long-range airliner, has been terminated. The I1-62MK was launched in 1978 and has a revised cabin, structural refinements and a higher MTOW than earlier versions had. Ordered: 273 Delivered: 271 IL-76 The I1-76MF was flown for die first time in August 1995. Its fuselage has been stretched by 6.6m from earlier versions, and maximum pay- load has been increased by 1.5t Powered by four Perm PS-90A turbofan engines, the D-76MF is claimed to offer a 12% reduction in fuel consumption over its prede cessor, and to be able to fly 20% further with an average load. The first customers for the type are likely to be ARIA and the Russian air force. It is under stood mat the Russian Government has agreed to fund production of two aircraft during 1996. The initial version of the I1-76M entered ser vice in 1974. Ordered: 850+ Delivered: 850+ IL-86 Production of the 11-86 ceased in 1994, and a decision has still not been made on whether to launch the long-awaited project to re-engine the type with CFMICFM56-5-C2 turbofans. CFMI shareholder GE indicated in August 1995 that it was close to a launch decision. A deal is understood to have been reached with at least one 11-86 operator, but CFMI needs to sign up more customers before going ahead. Fitting CFM56-5-C2s (which power the Airbus A340) to the 11-86 would yield a 40% reduction in fuel consumption, compared with the earlier Kuznetsov NK-86-powered version. The cost of the modification, however, which Dyushin estimates at $19 million an aircraft, could prove prohibitive to Russian carriers. Earlier in 1995, IAE revealed that it would carry out a feasibility study into fitting V2500- 15 turbofans to the type, as an alternative to CFM56s. The 11-86 was first flown in December 1976 and entered service with the then Aeroflot in December 1980. Ordered: 104 Delivered: 103 IL-96-300 Only seven Il-96-300s are in service — five with ARIA and two with Domodedovo Airlines. The former is expected to eventually operate up to ten. The 11-96-300 bears a superficial resem blance to the 11-86, but features a new wing, updated engines and a fly-by-wire FCS. The Ordered: 12 Delivered: 9 IL-96M/T ARIA expects to take delivery of the first of 20 Il-96M/Ts in the second half of 1996.
