Chew, with the carrier since 1972, has served in the marketing planning divisions and has been a country manager and regional vice-president. • AMERICA WEST America West Airlines, of Phoenix, Arizona, has appointed Edward Methot vice-president of flight operations. Before joining the car rier, Methot served for more than 30 years with United Airlines in operations management. • NASA Wilbur Trafton, director of US SDace orsanisation NASA's Soace Station programme for the past two years, has been named Assoc iate Administrator for the Office Of Space Flight, taking on addi tional responsibility for the Space Shutde programme. Trafton, a for mer US Navy captain, joined NASA in 1994. • UPS US freight carrier UPS Airlines, of Louisville, Kentucky, has appoint ed Burkhard Meyer managing director for the UK, Nordic coun tries and Ireland, based at the UK headquarters in Feltham, Middle sex. He replaces Chip Barnes, who is to take a key role with UPS in the USA. • AAR Rick Townsend has joined Elk Grove Village, Illinois-based aero space supplier and servicer AAR's overhaul and fixed-base operation, AAR Oklahoma, as vice-president for sales and marketing. He was most recently vice-president for marketing and sales at PEMCO World Air Services and, before that, he was vice-president for sales atFFVAerotech. •NORDAM Andrew Altendorf has been named director of marketing and Bob Brooks director of sales at the FAA-approved repair station Nor- dam Repair division, of Tulsa, Ok lahoma. Altendorf was formerly marketing director of Nordam's Lori heat-transfer company and Brooks was most recendy with Nor- dam Transparency. • DYNCORP High-technology company Dyn- Corp, of Fort Worth, Texas, has appointed Robert Alleger presi dent of its Aerospace Technology unit. He was formerly vice-presi dent of systems-support services at Lockheed Martin and has also worked for General Electric. • AVMTONSERVTCES VIP custom completion specialist International Aviation Services, of Fort Worth, Texas, has appointed Earl Parker director of produc tion. He was most recently director of executive modifications at As sociated Air Center. Rupert Hoe- nig becomes director of quality control and he, also, was most recently with Associated Air. as director of maintenance. Debbie Scally is named controller, with responsibility for financial and accounting functions. • AIR FRANCE Etienne Rachou has been ap pointed general manager for the UK and Ireland at Air France. He succeeds Francois Lafaye, who returns to the head office in Paris. • AVSOLUTIONS Scott Gordon has become manag ing director of AvSolutions Asset Management, a subsidiary of Man assas, Virginia-based AvSolutions. He has more than 22 years experi ence in government, general and commercial aviation. • MESABA Mesaba Airlines, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, has appointed Wayne Heller director of system opera tions control; Sandy Sturm be comes director of purchasing and contracts and Warren Wilkinson is named director of marketing and corporate communications. Heller joins Mesaba from Business Ex press, Sturm was formerly with Ex press Airlines I and Wilkinson is a former director of marketing and sales for Business Express. • TRO LEARNING Carl Thompson has been promot ed to vice-president of of TRO Learning's aviation training divi sion and managing director of TRO Learning (UK), its UK subsidiary, based at London Heathrow Air- Ian Blunt • HUNTING The UK's Hunting Aviation, of Windsor, Buckinghamshire, has named Ian Blunt project direc tor for its bid for the Royal Air Force replacement maritime- patrol aircraft. Blunt joined the company in 1993 from the RAF engineer branch. He moves from the Aircraft Engineering division to the Contract Services division. port. He takes over from John Mur ray, who will become corporate vice-president for product develop ment in Minneapolis, Minnesota. • GATWICK Gatwick Handling, of London Gatwick Airport, Sussex, UK, has appointed Charles Whyte chair man. He is a former managing dir ector of FLS Aerospace Support. • GAPAN SCHOLARSHIPS The UK Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators (GAPAN) invites applications for the following flying scholarships: • The Breitling Guild Flying Scholarship, a new scholarship, provides a fully funded course of flying and ground training in accordance with the 40h UK Civil Aviation Authority-approved syllabus to qualify for a private pilot's licence; • The Norman Motley Scholarship is valued at up to £1,500 ($2,300), and is made to the holder of a professional pilot's licence (aeroplanes), including BCPL(A), to contribute to the gaining of the assistant flying-instructor rating; • The Hunting Aviation Award, sponsored by Hunting Aviation, is made to a pilot already qualified to at least BCPL(A) standard and provides up to £2,000 for further training to acquire a type rating or instrument rating. Applications for the Hunting and Norman Motley awards must be in by July/August 1996 and those for the Breitling Scholarship by the end of May 1996.
