REGIONAL AND UTILITY AIRCRAFT Fokker 50, but witha 1.62m fuselage stretch, was launched in February. The Royal Netherlands Air Force has ordered four aircraft for use as mil itary transports, with delivery scheduled for early 1996. A passenger version, to carry up to 68 pas sengers, was still under study when the compa ny collapsed. Like the Fokker 50 High Performance, the Fokker 60 is powered by twin, 2,050kWP&WC PW127B turboprops. The utility variant has a 3.05 x 1.78m forward right-hand-side cargo door and a capacity of 7,800kg. FOKKER 70 The Fokker 70 is a derivative of the Fokker 100 and, together ,these two aircraft form the Fokker JetLine family. The model 70 has gained US, Dutch and UK certification. Although based on die 100, the Fokker 70 has several improvements which have subsequendy been incorporated in the earlier type. The aircraft has a menu-driven centralised fault-display unit ,which simplifies trouble shooting. The stall-warning system has been improved, as has the trimmable tailplane control-unit. Unusually, the Fokker 70 has a taxi-brake-select system, to save on carbon- brake wear. The cabin has been restyled, with deeper lug gage bins and improved passenger-service units. Like the Fokker 100, the Fokker 70 has a glass cockpit and has a Cat II approach capability as standard with up to Cat IHb optional, as are traf fic-alert and collision-avoidance system, winds- hear detection and guidance, and automatic communications and reporting system (ACARS) The model 70 is powered by two 60kN R-R Tay 620s, while the model 100 can have Tay 62 0s or 70kN Tay 650s. Fokker has 333 JetLine orders, including 59 for the Fokker 70. The Fokker 100 was launched in November 1983, superseding the F2 8-4000 from which it is derived. The first flight took place in November 1986, with the type entering ser vice with Swissair in March 1988. The Fokker 100's fuselage is 4.62m longer than that of the Fokker 70. Y-12 The first Y-121 was flown in 1982. The compa ny then developed the more-powerful Y-12 II, with 462kW PT6A-27s, the first flying in 1984 and receiving domestic certification in late 198 5. Three models are available: the Y-12 I (Chinese utility interior), the Y-12 II (with Nordam interior, Hamilton Standard envi ronmental-control system and a range of Western avionics options), and the updated Y- 12-IV with winglets, strengthened, but still fixed, undercarriage, and P&WC PT6A-27 engines. US certification of the latter model was achieved in April 1995, and Harbin intends to make further improvements to meet US equipment regulations for airline operations. The Y-12 is in small-scale production for util ity use by the Civil Aviation Administration of China at regional level. UK certification was received in 1990. Harbin promotes the aircraft for passenger and cargo use and a range of utili ty functions. Stretched and pressurised versions may follow. HAL, PO Box 5150, Bangalore, 560 001, India. Indian manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics builds the Dornier 228 under licence and has been in wide-ranging talks with other manufac turers, notably in China and Indonesia, about the possibilities of producing other types. IL-114 Iran is reportedly planning to establish an II-114 production line, which could be operational by early 1997. The country's efforts to upgrade its fleet with Western aircraft have been stifled because of US trade sanctions. The Ilyushin design bureau and the TAPO Tashkent production plant have developed a cargo version of the II-114, with a rear cargo- door and anMTOW of 23.5t.Wth a 6tpayload, the aircraft's range would be 1,000km. The current production line for this 60-seat, twin-turboprop, regional airliner is in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. There is an agreement for the air craft to be built in Moscow, as well. The II-114 is powered by two 1,860kWKlimovTV7-117 tur boprops, driving Stupino ultra-wide-chord low- noise CB-34 carbonfibre-composite propellers and giving a 2 70kt cruise speed. Ilyushin has also signed a memorandum of understanding with P&WC to install PW127 engines on a new model, known as the II-114PC. If the programme goes ahead, it would be sup ported by a P& WC/Klimov joint venture. The cockpit has electronic displays and the wing is fitted with double-slotted flaps. A range of 3,250km with half payload and 5,800km with no payload is claimed. Production aircraft will have composite tailplanes and wing boxes—the manufacturer's first use of such material in pri mary structure. Composites are used for the dorsal fin, ailerons, spoilers, wing-root fairings, radome and cabin floor. Production rate is intended to be 100 aircraft a year. The D-114hasno underfloor stowage, so baggage is stowed either side of the aisle near the front entrance or in a single bay by the rear door. IL-112 Ilyushin has Russian Government approval to proceed with development of this high-winged, twin-turboprop, 40-seater.
