PEOPLE Robert Gladwell m WESTLAND INC Robert Gladwell, president and chief executive of GKN Westland Inc, of Arlington, Vir ginia, has retired. Gladwell, who founded die US arm of the UK helicopter manufacturer in 1983, is also a former managing director of the British Aircraft Corporation. •LOCKHEED Bob Kosakoski has been appointed to the new position of programme manager of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) airborne early-warn ing and control (AEW&C) pro gramme at Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems, in Marietta, Georgia, responsible for developing die C-130J Hercules as an AEW&C platform for the RAAF. Kosakoski was most recendy die company's chief engineer for Navy programmes. Bill Bernstein has been named vice-president of Her cules programmes, replacing How ard Burnette, who retired on 31 July. Bernstein was formerly vice- president of C-130 production. • SWEARINGEN Jack Braly, president of Beech Aircraft from December 1990 to August 1993, has joined Sino Swearingen Aircraft (SSAC) as president and chief executive offi cer. Reid, a former British Army Air Corps officer and helicopter test pilot, joins the com pany from GEC-Marconi. • FLIGHTSAFETY Berton Beach, manager of La- Guardia Airport, New York-based FlightSafetylnternational'sMiami, Florida, training centre, has been appointed director of safety and compliance. Beach, with Flight- Safety for more than five years, has also served as director of airline operations. Al Krusz becomes di rector of Gulfstream maintenance training worldwide. He was for merly manager of the Savannah, Georgia, training centre. Charles Strickland has been named man ager of the Miami centre. He has been with die company for more than four years and was most recendy its assistant manager. • RAYTHEON Tariq (Ted) Farid has been appointed vice-president for spe cial-mission sales at Raytheon Air craft, of Wichita, Kansas. Farid, who has more than 2 9 years' experi ence in selling and marketing gen eral-aviation products, will report to Richard Klass, vice-president for Government marketing. • ALLIEDSIGNAL AlliedSignal Aerospace, of Tor rance, California, has named Jerry Rockstroh director of internation al procurement; Michael Chan becomes director of manufacturing training; Jeff Augustin is appoint ed director of financial planning and analysis; Tim McClung is named Space Station hybrid man ager; while David Yaney becomes general manager of the microelec tronics and technology centre. • MDC Former astronaut Richard Covey has been appointed director of the McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Houston, Texas, division. Covey, who was formerly deputy pro gramme director for Unisys In formation Management Services' space operations, also in Houston, replaces George Kersels, who has left the company. • UPS Package-deliver carrier UPS , of Louisville, Kentucky, has appoint ed Kerry Fielden business-devel opment director for the UK, the Nordic countries and Ireland. Fielden, who is based at the UK headquarters in Feltham, Middle sex, replaces John Haack who will return to the UPS US operation. Neil Taylor replaces Fielden as sales manager in the UK. William Peltola • GTEAIRFONE William Peltola has been appointed to the new position of European operations manager of Airfone, Stamford, Connecticut- based GTE's airline-passenger; communications system.
