Haiti 2/9 2/13 C Having climbed to 150ft immediately after takeoff, the aircraft rolled right, lost height, stnxk the ground just inside the airfield perimeter and came to rest inverted and on fire. The aircraft, on a scheduled domestic flight to Cap Haitian and Port de Paix. was close to its maximum takeoff weight. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the right engine lost power. 13 March AviaAir Cessna 402B-II (P4AVB) Nr Punto Ftjo, Venezuela 1/7 1/7 ER Redeveloped in the left engine andcontinued after engine shutdown. Taiwan -/6 Flew into sea close to beach on short-final approach during an attempted visual approach in rain and tog. Sudan 6/47 Inbound from Wau, southern Sudan, the aircraft crashed in poor visibility reused by ckjst storm during the crew's ninm attempt at an appro 6 May Aerotaca Cessna Skywagon II (HK-2250) Villavicencio, Colombia Crashed into house on approach to Villavicencio airport. Theaircraft, inboundto Mendi. flew into a mountain at the 9.200ft level about 5km from the airfield. There was a 700ft cloudbase in the Mendi basin. 11 Jury Archana Airways Let 410UVP (VT-ETC) CUT. Aircraft hit a hillside about 20km from Kulu while inbound. Visibility was reduced by fog. Nr Klandi, Kulu. India 3/6 1/19 3/6 AA 17 July Trans Caribe Airlines DHC Twin Otter 300 (XA-TCF) Playa del Carmen Airport. Yucatan, Mexico Came down about 20m short of the runway threshold. One of the pilots reported that a ftyingcontrol cable appeared to have broken. A 2/16 RA 24 July Myanma Airways Fokker F27-600 (XY-AET) Myeik Airport. Myanmar -/8 5/44 RA On a reportedly 'lowprofile'. visualapproach in poorweather with l,8(X)m visibility and the runway in sight trie a the runway threshold. The copilot reports that he could not maintain height and the aircraft came down some 800m short of the ruriway in an area of ertensive construction work. 6 October GosNIIGA Antonov An-12 (RA-11101) Lucapa. Angola §71 6/13 L Passenger/cargo flight. Aircraft touched down well into the runway, then runway lighting failed during landing run. Tikal. Guatemala 2/14 2/14 13 November Kismayo Airlines Piper Navajo Chieftain Nagong Hills. Nr Nairobi. Kenya Pilot reported loss of power from one engine. Tried to return to Nairobi Wilson Airport in IMC. but crashed. 1/7 1/7 14 November Crashed on take-off. Antonov An-2(?) Nr BolshayaPyssa. Russia 1/12 2/12 TO 19 November United Express Beech 1900C (N87GL) Quincy airfield, Illinois. USA 2/10 2/10 L The Beecfi 1900 was landing at an uncontrolled regional airfield, but collie^ with a Beech King Air at the intersection of the field's two runways. The two people on the King Air, which was taking off, were also killed. 30 November ACES DHC Twin Otter 300 (HK-2602) Padre Amaya mountain, Nr Medellin, Colombia 2/12 2/13 C flew into high ground in fair weather soon after takeoff. Witnesses report that the aircraft was flying nose-high before the wing dropped and the aircraft went out of control. 7 December Dirganta Air Service IPTN/CASA 212 (PK-VSO) Nr Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. Indonesia 2/14 2/15 C Crew reported engine fire shortly after takeoff. Witnesses on ground reported fire while the aircraft was still airborne. Aircraft crashed into a factory, killing two people on the ground. Altriough trie aircraft was on a positi^ used the opportunity for unauthorised crew training, throttling back first No 1 and then No 2 engines. The aircraft crashed on a playing field, killing 20 people. At impact the aircraft had gear down, flaps 15°, and its attitude was nosehjgh. 16 February Avtones Commerciales de Guatemalade Havilland Canada Twin Otter 300 (TG-JAK) Nr El Quiche, Guatemala 2 2 CATon the approach to land, impact on fairlyflat, but heavilywooded, ground about 8km from the runway. Visibility was poor in "thick tog". The flight was positioning top** up passengers. RA 27 February Air Tropical Antonov An-12 (ER-ACE) Nr Lukapa, Luanda, north Angola Inbound to Lukapa. the aircraft impacted the ground some 35km away from destination airport in darkness and poor visibility. The Mokjavianregistered aircraft came down dose to the mining community, near which a Trans Service Airlift Lockheed Electra L-188 crashed on 18 December. 1995. killing 141 people. The possibility of unlawful interference is being investigated by the Government. 5 April KrasAir llyushin 11-76 Nr Petropavtovsk-Karnchatsky. eastern Russia 21 21 AA CAT. Thefreight aircraft hit high ground'm poorweather afterbeing clearedto descend for Petropavlovsk. The aircraft was some 35km south olthe published approach corridor. 24 April Tanzania Air Services Cessna Caravan II (5H-TZD) Mt Palapala. Nr Morogoro. Tanzania 1 1 AA CAT. Hit mountain in poor weather while positioning for an approach at Morogoro airfield to pick up passengers. 6 June Hoseba Airlines llyushin 11-76 (UR-76539) Returning empty KinshasaAthens. the aircraft came down 200m from runway after takeoff. Ndjili International Airport. Kinshasa. Zaire 10 TO 9 June Iran Air Boeing 727-200 (EP-IRU) Rasht. northern Iran After the 15th in a series ot toudhandgo landings, during crew training, the aircraft crastied about 5km from the airport.
