Safety Assessment of Aircraft Systems Trials assessment and system evaluation roles for advanced military aircraft c£l4,000 - £22,000 & benefits (dependent on experience) Boscombe Down, Wiltshire The Defence Test and Evaluation Organisation (DTEO) Boscombe Down is the UK's official test centre for the test and evaluation of all military aircraft, their armament and associated equipment. We now operate as a commercial trading agency, with a remit to continue as the prime provider of advice to the MOD whilst developing the potential of our expertise through the expansion of non-MOD business. DTEO Boscombe Down, is the UK's official centre for evaluation and acceptance testing for all military aircraft, their armament and associated equipment, intended for use by the Services We now have opportunities for Assessment/Trials Officers in the evaluation of electromagnetic compatibility and the assessment of electronic system safety in state-of-the-art aircraft. These are very challenging and highly responsible roles at the leading edge of technology, offering the chance to exercise considerable intellectual autonomy and personal technical authority Electromagnetic Compatibility This role is within a team responsible for determining the safety implications of electromagnetic interference in rotary wing aircraft, involving extensive ground and airborne trials. You will liaise with a wide range of people in the total assessment of aircraft, and make recommendations for their deployment in specified electromagnetic environments Detailed planning, costing and implementation of theoretical and practical assessments - of avionic and weapon systems - will be central to your brief. Consequently a background in avionics/weapon systems engineering would be an asset, combined with an appropriate qualification equivalent to HNC or above, in Electronic Engineering or Physics Ref: 84a Electronic Systems Safety To join the team conducting safety assessments on Combat or Rotary wing aircraft fitted with safety-critical electronic systems, including software, you will be responsible for the day to day management of your assignments, and for drafting subsequent recommendations detailing the aircraft's safe operating conditions. The assessments include critical review of the Aircraft Design Authority's evidence Though an aerospace background would be relevant it is not essential. More valid is experience of Safety Engineering techniques - Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis. Fault Tree Analysis and software verification and validation techniques such as Static Code Analysis. This could have been gained in a number of industry/engineering sectors using high integrity systems, ideally combined with a HNC, or equivalent, in Electronics and/or Software Engineering or Physics Ref: 84b The challenges will be complex and diverse, and the life will have exceptional variety including overseas travel to liaise with manufacturing partners and suppliers. If you have the confidence, credibility, capability and communication skills to succeed, an excellent future is assured. The package is as attractive as the prospects, with competitive salaries, generous holidays and a non-contributory pension. Relocation expenses may also be available. These appointments are offered on a permanent basis We also have vacancies in a range of disciplines in our other divisions Anyone who reaches a suitable standard in this competition but is not appointed may be considered for other specialist vacancies Alternatively, we shall be happy to consider applications for such posts from those eligible for the continuous central recruitment scheme DTEO welcomes applications from suitably qualified people regardless of sex, marital status, race or disability For an application form, please contact, quoting the appropriate reference.
