The present name was adopted in May 1950. In January 1979 Trans World (TWC) became TWA's parent company, in December 1982, TWC shareholders voted to sell TWA and on 1 February 1984 TWA was established as a separate, entirely publicly owned company. On 26 September, 1985, TWA was taken over by New York investor Carl Icahn, who acquired 52% of the company's shares. In August 1995 it emerged from its second Chapter 11 reorganisation less than four years. The reorganised airline is owned partly by its US employees who invested $130 million in wage and benefit concessions in exchange for about 30% of the stock. The restructuring eliminated $500 million in long-term debt and reduced annual interest payments by about $50 million Employees total 25,000 Aircrew staff 7,500 Executives Chairman Thomas Meagher Acting chief executive officer Gerald Gither Acting chief operations officer David Kennedy Snr VP marketing & planning Rod Brandt Snr VP finance & CFO Michael Palumbo Snr VP employee relations Charles Thibaudeau Acting executive VP operations William Compton VP corporate affairs & strategy Scott Gibson VP flight operations Rich Roberts VP maintenance & engineering Renee Vischer Fleet 39 x Boeing 727-200 10 x Boeing 747-100 4 x Boeing 747-200B 3 x Boeing 757-200 12 x Boeing 767-200 2 x Boeing 767-300 11 x Lockheed L-1011 TriStar 58 x McDonnell Douglas DC-9 30 x McDonnell Douglas MD82 23 x McDonnell Douglas MD-83 Orders 10 x Airbus A330 17 x Boeing 757-200 Options 10 x Airbus A330 20 x Boeing 757-200 Main base/hubs New York JFK and St Louis Domestic destinations More than 100 destinations, including Trans States services Transatlantic destinations Europe and the Middle East, including Cairo and Riyadh Simulators New York: Boeing 727-200, 747-100.
