i'jJJUfARY SAFETY The Belgian air force suffered one of 1996? worst military aircraft accidents when a Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules crashed on landing at Eindhoven, Netherlands, killing 34 people on board World military aircraft incidents COMPILED BY DAVID LEARMOUNT/LONDON •J:|:Md>M.l!b f LIGHT INTERNATIONAL'S annual listing of military accidents and incidents is as com plete as possible, but it inevitably reflects varying national attitudes to the release of infor mation on military operations. Some countries release no accident, attrition or safety-related information as a matter of policy, while others make'available a great deal of data. Accident investigations for the majority of events during 1996 are not yet complete. The list, therefore, is only as information, not as a basis for statistical calculations or safety comparisons. SOURCES The information comes from a combination of Flight International's own sources and the data base of Brasseys Global Military Aircraft Census (GLOBEMAC), which covers the strengths, organisation, disposition and past and future procurement planning of some 150 air forces and paramilitary air arms.
