COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT EMS. 1 Aviatorov Square, Taganrog 347928, Russia; tefc +7 (86344) 49 839; fax: +7 (86344) 41 454; telex: BETA SU. BE-200 This scaled-down version of the A-40 twinjet amphibian is expected to have its first flight in October. The swept-wing amphibian firefight er is designed to carry 12t of water, but the air craft is also intended for use as a 64-passenger utility amphibian. Betair (Beriev, Taganrog, Irkutsk) markets the aircraft. Beriev expects certification in 1998 to Russia's AP25 standard. Production Final assembly is undertaken by Irkutsk Aircraft Production Association. Bombardier (Canadair), TO Box 6087, Station A, Montreal, Quebec H3C 3G9, Canada; tel: +1 (514) 855 7983; fax: +1 (514) 855 7903. CANADAIR CL-415 Developed from the Canadair CL-215 piston- powered amphibious water bomber, the turbo prop-powered CL-415 was first flown in December 1993 with P&WC PW123AF engines. A turboprop retrofit programme is also offered for the CL-215 (the 215T) with 15 air craft converted to date. Bombardier is working on a product- improvement package to diversify the capabili ties of the CL-415. A finite firefighting market and interest from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand (for additional aircraft) -and Turkey, in "missionised" derivatives -has prompted the manufacturer to consider definition and devel opment of the package. Changes are likely to include improved ice protection, autopilot certification, a larger aft cargo-door, relocation of the auxiliary power unit in the wing fairing and increased take-off weights, as well as cabin heating and air condi tioning. Further development would be tied to customer commitment. Canadai r has been working on the CL-415M multi-role derivative, with options for surveil lance and coastal-patrol capabilities -Japan is interested in an independenturban-firefighting capability to control major post-earthquake fires. The CL-415M will feature mission sen sors such as a surveillance radar and FLIR (for ward-looking infra-red) as well as precision navigation and high-power communications equipment. Production Final assembly is undertaken at Canadair's plant in Montreal, Quebec, at a rate of about ten aircraft a year. "Airline Rotables is a specialist. We do nothing other than provide rotables management support for operators of A320 and B737 aircraft. Many of our competitors are generalists; often core business is operating maintenance hangars and workshops - year round component management services arc just one small clement of their operations. Why should this interest you? Only a specialist component support organisation will be focused solely on meeting your specific needs and will have the freedom to use the best repair shops to do so. By using only the very best repair shops for individual components ARL delivers the highest levels of on-wing reliability (an ARL MTBR is well in excess of industry average) which means fewer removals, fewer headaches, lower costs and better operational performance. Fewer unscheduled removals combined with a highly responsive 24 hour, 365 day per year AOG service mean an unbeatable rotable component management service. If you need the performance of a specialist rather than that of a gcneralist, we should be talking.
