FUGHT AIRNffilKMIN IIHIIIIIIIIH •••••I" :- -v. AIR Navigation Amsterdam 22-24 September 1997 No-one doubts the massive benefits that "free flight" can bring to the world airline industry. For example, according to IATA figures, enroute ATC congestion cost airlines US$ 1.4 billion in 1992, a figure they estimated could grow to US$ 6 billion by the year 2000. What is less clear is how airlines and authorities should be spending money today to reap those benefits tomorrow. Even putting aside these disturb ing figures, it has also been suggested that at forecasted rates of traffic growth, the existing operational infrastructure will reach capacity in just a few short years. Indeed in Europe, where the problem is worst, growth is already feeling the constraints imposed reaching the limits of operational capacity. "Free flight" in some form is the widely accepted solution but the implementation of "free flight" is fraught with obstacles, be they technical, financial or institutional. This is why Flight International is putting the cost and commercial aspects of "free flight" under the spotlight at this conference. The speed of develop ment in communications, navigation and surveillance systems has never been greater but neither has the risk of making costly mistakes. The whole industry faces a similar dilemma: how to invest wisely for a future which is still full of unknowns. Three fact - filled days that will save you months of costly research and help you define your "free flight" implementation strategy This conference will bring all of the industry together to debate not only the future but the current cost of equipment choices. Taking part in the conference will enable you to clarify your thinking across every aspect of the air navigation system debate. With so many key indus try figures and acknowledged experts taking part, you are guaranteed a lively and often controversial exchange of views. In the last two years this event has been a sell out - as in previous years due to capacity constraints at the venue numbers will neces sarily be limited.
