PEOPLE David Smukowski • FS BOEING David Smukowski has become deputy president of joint venture FlightSafety (FS) Boeing Train ing International. Smukowski, who will be based in Seattle, was formerly director of business strategy and development for Boeing Enterprises, where he was instrumental in forming the joint venture. He will co-ordi nate activities with Larry Clark- son, president of Boeing Enter prises, and will report to A L Ueltschi, chief executive of FlightSafety International and president of the joint venture. • FRANCE Edmond Marchegay, chairman and chief executive of systems sup plier Intertechnique, has been elected Commissaire General of the Salons Internationaux de l'Aeronautique et de PEspace, with responsibility for organising the biennial Paris air show. He replaces Yves Michot, president of aircraft manufacturer Aerospatiale. • NATCA The Washington DC-based US National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) has elected Mike McNally president. Randy Schwitz, previously soutiiern-re- gion vice-president, succeeds him as executive vice-president. Both appointments take effect on 16 October. • TRACOR Tracor Flight Systems, a subsidiary of Austin, Texas-based defence- electronics company Tracor, has promoted Arthur Mallamo to vice-president of business develop ment. He was formerly director of business development for the Aircraft Systems division, a unit of Tracor Flight Systems. • USAF The US Senate has confirmed Gen Michael Ryan to serve as the US Air Force's sixteenth chief of staff. He is now commander of the US Air Forces in Europe and com mander of Allied Air Forces Central Europe. He succeeds Gen Ronald Fogleman as USAF senior military leader and becomes the service's representative on rlie Joint Chiefs of Staff. • THAI AIRWAYS Thamnoon Wanglee, president of Thai Airways International, Cbarla Wise Judy Schlosser • LOCKHEED MARTIN Charla Wise and Judy Schlosser of Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems of Fort Worth, Texas, received national honours from the Women in Aerospace society recently. Wise, vice-president and F-22 programme director, received the 1997 Outstanding Leadership Award. Schlosser won the 1997 Outstanding International Award, in recognition of her contributions to die international F-16 programme during the past 15 years. has taken additional responsibili ties, as acting vice-president for human resources and general administration, He replaces Sqn Ldr Payoon Puakpong, who has recently retired. • SOGERMA Gerard Kowal has been appointed to die new position of senior vice- president for components mainte nance at Aerospatiale's Sogerma Maintenance Group, of Bordeaux, France. He was previously assistant general manager of Revima, 70% owned by Sogerma. Francois Tauzin has been named senior vice-president for industry. He joined Aerospatiale in 1971, becoming head of production activities for the Ariane 4 and 5 pro jects. Christian Dumas has been appointed senior vice-president for sales and support. He has formerly worked at Air Inter's planning/ new-equipment division. He joined ATR in 1993 as manager of the negotiation department for Aero International (Regional). • SPECTRUM Kurt Brock has joined Gilbert, Arizona-based space-products firm Spectrum Astro as director for international/commercial space, where he will be responsible for the Ellipso global-satellite system. He was formerly president of the Loral Integrated Navigation and Com munication Satellite Service, a telecommunications and data-ser vices provider and a division of Loral Space and Communications. • ASI Marc Thaler has become general manager of parts supplier and afer- market specialist Aviation Systems International (ASI) of Florida. He comes from New York, where he has held senior positions with major parts suppliers. • BFGOODRICH Damon Geary has become sales administrator for Grand Rapids, Michigan-based technology com pany BFGoodrich's business and general-aviation sales group.
