The UK rejected the Tiger, however, in favour of the Boeing/Westland WAH-64D Apache. The MTR390 is being proposed for a number of projects including the Japanese Fuji advance medium-twin helicopter and the Kawasaki AH-X. Meanwhile, LHTEC entered the frav for export versions of the Tiger by offering its T800-801, which implies the engine is head-to- head with the MTR390 for at least four attack helicopter contests, thought to include Australia, Singapore, Japan and Turkey, and as part of Agusta's A129 bids for these contracts. •;,ii;ii;,iiiriiii;i:-.::i^:Ti:;,:in?T^r^l MTR-390 Variant MTR390 kW 957 Power shp 1.285 Dry weight (kg) 169 Length Fan m diameter |m) 1.08 0.44 EPR SFC take-off mg/Ns Ib/h/lb 77.00 0.456 Compressors Total stages 2 Turbines Total stages 3 Eurocopter Tiger, EC165, powering AS565 flying test bench, ALH, re-engined Lynx. The engine meets the different power requirements within the same basic structure. Engines for the Royal Navy's EH Industries EH-101 Merlin are rated at a baseline l,650kW fax:+44 (171) 245 6385: telex: 918944 The first 40 have already been delivered out of the 154 on order for the maritime helicopter programme. The RTM 322 is on order for the EH 101s going to the RAF, but these have been uprated to nearly l,800kW The UK has also selected the RTM 322 for its Boeing WAH-64 Apache attack helicopter contract and the first two are undergoing ground testing. The latest application is on the NH Industries NH90 venture, with qualification scheduled for 1999. This required power of 1,860kW from each engine, achieved with an increased flow compressor. The same basic hardware can achieve 2,050kWand the compa ny is looking at developments to take it up to 2,600kW. Other features include a 30% reduc tion in the number of parts against similar turboshafts. • ;ii:iMKiMH«ll|;i:W,',UiM RTM322 Variant RTM322 kW 1,565 Power shp 2.101 Dry weight (kg) 240 Length Fan m diameter (m) 1.17 0.64 EPR 14 SFC take-off mg/Ns Ib/h/lb 76.00 0.450 Compressors Total stages 4 Turbines Total stages 2 RTM322 01/8 powers EH101 (Merlin Mkl), -02/8 (1.669kW) RTM322-01/12.
