PEOPLE • DUNLOP Dunlop Aviation of Coventry, in the UK has named David Bailey project leader of its electrically actuated hraking systems pro ject. The UK Department of Trade and Industry-funded pro gramme is aimed at developing an electro-mechanical braking system to replace traditional hydraulic actuation. • US AIRWAYS Thomas Mutryn has become senior vice-president - finance and chief financial officer at US Airways Group. He joins the com pany from United Airlines, where he was vice-president and treasurer for three years. He replaces Terry Hall, who resigned after less than a year. Rakesh Gangwal has been named chief executive. He was for merly company president and suc ceeds Stephen Wolf, who remains chairman of both the airline and the holding company. Peter Michael George has become a member of its board of directors. He is vice-chairman and chief executive of Ladbroke Group and chairman of Hilton International. • BOEING Boeing has named Deborah Hopkins, of General Motors Europe, chief financial officer. She has been vice-president of finance and chief financial officer of the Switzerland-based unit and replaces Boyd Givan, who retired from die Seattle-base company in September. She has also been vice- president at Unisys. • HONGKONG The Airport Authority of Hong Kong has appointed Billy Lam Chung-lun acting chief executive widi effect from 1 December, tak ing over from Dr Henry Townsend, who has retired. He is now deputy chief executive, having been with the authority since January this year. • FLIGHTSAFETY Alec White has joined Flight- Safety Boeing Training Internat ional. He will serve as vice-president - customers and be responsible for sales, marketing and customer services. He was for merly general manager of North west Aerospace Training. • MALEV Csaba Siklos has replaced Andras Derzsi as Hungarian national car rier Malev's chairman. He is a for mer Hungarian minister of transport, telecommunications and water. Dr Antal Pongracz re places Sandor Szathmary as chief executive. • UNITED AIRLINES Shelley Longmuir has been appointed senior vice-president for governmental, regulatory and international affairs at United Airlines of Chicago, Illinois, USA, and Cyril Murphy has been named vice-president for interna tional network development. Michael Whitaker becomes vice- president for international and regulatory affairs. • ROLLS-ROYCE UK engine manufacturer Rolls- Royce has appointed Michael Ryan vice-president for govern ment business in North America. His last appointment was with the US Marine Corps as a major gen eral commanding the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. • NORTHROP Martin Dandridge has become sector vice-president for airborne ground surveillance and battle management systems for North rop Grumman's new intergrated systems and aerostructures sector in Dallas, Texas, USA. • BRITISHAIRWAYS British Airways general manager flight technical Capt David Fleming has won the Bendix Trophy, awarded by the Flight Safety Foundation and Allied- Signal, for his contribution to the reduction of controlled flight into terrain accidents by provid ing critical support and data lead ing to the development of the enhanced ground proximity warning system. • IFA Robert Davis has become presi dent of the UK-based Internat ional Federation of Airworthiness for 1998-2000. He became corpo rate vice-president of engineering and technology in 1994 and is a fonner vice-president of engineer ing and product development for Boeing Commercial Airplane. • AMTRAN Dalen Thomas has resigned from American Trans Air holding com pany Amtran, where he was senior vice-president, sales, marketing and strategic planning. Appointed in August 1996, he has also resigned from Indianapolis-based Am tran's board. • MARCONI Jonathan Flint has been appoint ed managing director of Marconi Electronic Systems' recently estab lished Avionics Systems business. He is a former engineering direc tor for radar and countermeasure systems and business director for airborne electronic warfare.
