History Name is derived from Meteorological Aviation. It was founded by a group of pilots and scientists who researched weather conditions in the Eastern Transvaal and Southern Africa. Metavia began a scheduled air service between Nelspruit and Maputo during the civil war in Mozambique, to give expatriates and local residents access to doctors, schools and supplies in the Lowveld.
