History The Kuwait National Airways Company was formed in March 1954, operating three Douglas DC-3s. In 1955 the Kuwait Government acquired a 50% interest. As a result, the company's capital was doubled and its name was changed to Kuwait Airways (KAC). Later KAC's shareholders sold all of their shares to the government In 1964 rival Trans Arabian Airways was bought out by the government and its fleet merged with KAC's. On 2 August, 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait and the invading Iraqi army looted and destroyed all KAC premises and 15 of its aircraft. After the liberation of Kuwait on February 26,1991, the airline was relaunched as Kuwait Airways and adopted a master plan to expand its operations worldwide.
